Best day trips from Phoenix?

hi all,

I'd like some recommendations for a day trip out of Phoenix. I heard that Sedona and Tucson are nice but are about 100 miles away. What are your recommendations and places of interest? Note: We have a car.

thanks in advance!

My favorite - Boyce Thompson Arboretum.

Sedona is a long day trip I think...

To Boyce-Thompson Arboretum and Talesin West, add the Apache Traill and the Desert Botanical Garden.

I always recommend driving The Apache Trail and everyone seems to enjoy it alot....also the drive west to Wickenburg is a nice one, as is the little town.

Phoenix to Tucson is pretty easy if not during the Phoenix commute time. I think it was 1 hr. 45/ 50 ish minutes each way, so an easy day trip. I really liked 4th Ave in Tucson (near 6th street). Lots of atistic shops and dining/ coffee options. I called it Berkeley in the desert. ;-)

Sedona is an easy day trip (about 2 hours each way); make a stop at Montezuma Castle along the way.

Also, the Apache Trail is a nice ride; however, at one point, the road is very poor.

Prescott is a lovely high-desert mountain community about 90 miles north of Phoenix. It's a great place to visit in the summer since it's about 15 degrees cooler than Phoenix at that time. Lots of neat shops and restaurants to explore...
