Best Crab Cakes?
I've heard alot about Crab Cakes where is a great place to order them? We'll be at Garden Hilton in Washington DC.
Thanks |
sjollie, are you talking about mail order, or going to a restaurant while in DC?

If you have a car and don't mind driving up to Baltimore; G&M restaurant nearby BWI is my favorite. Seriously casual. Modestly priced. But if you are a crab cake enthusiast, these are good. Winner of the Baltimore paper's best in town many times.
|
stumpworks, have you had the crabcakes at Timbuktu, and if so would you say that G & M is better? I've never been to G & M but have been anxious to try it.
|
stumpworks/3.. took the advice of our hotel at BWI, and then remembered seeing it on fodorīs.
FABULOUS!! everything was great at G+M. (You would never imagine it from the outside!). |
We will be going to D C also in October & are crab cake fans. May not get to Baltimore, maybe Annapolis. Any suggestions for Annapolis?
|
G&M, without a doubt. It's a great place to stop before or after a flight at BWI. Timbuktu's crabcakes are a lot smaller and more expensive.

Hi
Here in Annapolis you might like a really good crab cake at Jerry's Seafood on West Street. It's called a crab bomb at Jerry's but it will probably be the best and freshest crab cake you'll ever eat! Other than Jerry's a good place is across the bay bridge at The Narrows on Kent Island. Legal Seafood in DC is known for having a good crab cake. G & M is pretty much in Baltimore or Linthicum. |
I don't if they are the best, since I have a long way to go to sampling them all, but I was quite impressed with the ones at Johnny's Half Shell on Capitol Hill, which is mentioned in link posted by beanweb24 as the best. We also had some very impressive crab cakes in Alexandria, but I do not know the name. We just walked up and down and read menus until we found one that said "World Famous Crab Cakes!"
|
Had great crab cakes at Martin's Tavern in Georgetown:

We wil be staying in Alexandria. Any thoughts as to where "gonetoMaui's" carb cakes were, the world famous? Will have to find Jerry's in Annapolis.
|
The Narrows at Kent Narrows, Maryland have excellent crab cakes. Hemingway's on Kent Island had very good crab cakes when I last ordered crab cakes there ten years ago.
|
Agree with G&M being the best I have ever had. http://www.gandmcrabcakes.com/
Here's their website. There were 8 of us on a business trip and we stopped for dinner. We waited an hour on a Tuesday night for a table (along with many others also waiting), but it was worth it!!!!! |
Betsy, I asked my daughter where we ate. It was the FishMarket!
www.fishmarketoldtown.com/main.html Besides great crab cakes, they had wonderful clam chowder, mussels marinara to die for, big, cold beers and fun history. Oh, and the restrooms were very nice! lol We ordered a bunch of stuff and shared. The prices were quite reasonable, and they had tables outside. It is right on King Street in old town. I loved Alexandria. This is where my daughter would like to buy an old town home, that is when she has a million or so to spend. Do be sure to visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the Revolutionary War at The Presbyterian Meeting House. There are several walking tours you can take. The Ghost Tour was a bit cheesy, but informative and fun. We actually learned quite a bit about the history of Alexandria onthe ghost tour. |
Here today - thanks for the info, I was just reading about Fish Market in the DC Insider Guide today. I have a child who loves crab so this will be quite a treat, especially coming from Denver.
|
How old are you kids? We did the Ghost Tour and the kids on the tour simply adored it--even a couple of too-cool teenage girls. They started out be all casual and bored, but at the end they were squealing and giggling along with the younger kids. It was cheap-maybe $10? It's a nice after-dinner activity, not too long. We got ice cream at Pop's afterwards, next to the Fish Market.
There is SO much to do in the DC metro area. I did one week and I'm already planning another trip to see the stuff I missed! Have a fun trip! |
Twin boys are 13. If we have any energy left at the end of the day, will keep in mind the ghost tour.
Thanks! |
