Best campground or lodge/cabins in Grand Teton National Park?

My husband and I will be hiking with Road Scholar in Yellowstone in September, 2012. We would like to visit GTNP either before Sept. 16th or after September 21st. We will have our camping van, so can either camp or stay at a lodge or cabin. What are the campgrounds in GTNP like, and can anyone please suggest some beautiful day hikes?

Note that some campgrounds will be closed, and others might be full by mid-day.

Having reviewed these sites previously, what we actually wanted was an opinion or two.
In our state we can see pictures and complete descriptions of individual campsites in state parks, but the descriptions of the two RV campgrounds in GTNP are pretty sketchy. Rooming options are described much more completely.
The hike information is great, but we still would like a personal opinion. (We prefer uncrowded.)

If you call the contact number perhaps they will send you a brochure. http://www.grandtetoncouncil.org/index.cfm?pageid=2503

It will be uncrowded in September wherever you hike, so you will have good luck there. Jenny Lake Lodge is gorgeous. I think they may have some camp grounds closed in September due to fewer people in the park, but maybe not. I think you just pick a camp ground and focus on the hiking!!

Jenny Lake Lodge if you can get in and afford it, is far and away the best lodge. Personal choice of 2nd best is Signal Mountian Lodge. Only camped at Grov Vontes and it is not the best location, but easier to get into during peak seasn.

Jenny Lake campground is often suggested but I've driven through it and wasn't impressed. It is heavily wooded so you don't get any views at all. We like Gros Ventre. Hardly ever fills, along a river, great views and a short drive into Jackson. We've driven through Signal Mountain CG and liked it as well. It is just MUCH further from Jackson and we enjoy going into town--it's a neat town to visit.

Jackson Lake Lodge. Hands down IMO the most gorgeous lodge in the area. I vacationed there as a young child and took my own children back many years later. There was so much to do and see from there and the lodge itself....just wow!!!

Check out www.gtlc.com These folks are the official lodging site for inside the park. Jenny Lake is wonderful, but outrageously expensive.

You will find online brochures and a detailed listing of their various sites.
