Best campground at Lake Tahoe?
 

We are road tripping at the end of May/ start of June from SD down to CA, I am currently trying to figure out which campground would be the best choice for us (me and my husband, 1 car and 1 tent!).
We will be coming from Redwoods and spending one night at Tahoe before heading on to Bodie. We aren't interested in casinos, or busy beaches so I have heard we would be better off going to one in North Tahoe. All we really want is somwhere close to the water with great views, to perhaps rent a kayak and basically just chill out!

Are you spending any time in Oregon?

Thanks will check it out, I was looking at Meeks bay but the reviews aren't great. We are hitting Portland and Crater Lake on our way down I think!

Sugar Pine State Park--http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=510 -- has an extensive campground and access to a beach. DL Bliss--http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=505 --might be a little quieter because it does not have the flat areas where kids can ride their bikes.

That is South Dakota and not San Diego, right?
As much as I love Crater Lake, you may find snow in the campgrounds even after June 1. Don't count on the north entrance to Crater Lake off 138 being open until late June.
If you are going to see the Redwood NP, you should come down US 101 through Oregon and stay in one of our coastal State Parks.
several of them have yurts in case you didn't want to get the tent wet and fold it up wet.

Although we only did a day hike, and a picnic, Fallen Leaf Lake was beautiful, quiet and clean. We loved it! You can check campground reviews on Yelp, etc. This small lake is a mile south of the southern end of South Lake Tahoe.

I wouldn't stay at Meeks Bay, nor at the campground tom links (it is in the middle of South Lake Tahoe).

DL Bliss would be my 1st choice

Are you going to be there Memorial Day weekend? If so, any campground will be busy

Yeah we are flying into Rapid City and driving through Wyoming-Montana-Washington-Portland to California. Didn't even consider there being snow in Portland in June! :( Thanks for the advice will definitely take a look at our route, hard to plan not knowing what roads will have opened by then!

The only snow in Oregon is in the Cascades above 5500' elevation which includes much of Crater Lake NP.
Mt. Bachelor outside Bend still has a 46" base this morning.
You're likely to have rain in Portland and along the coast.
My favorite spot on a rainy day in Portland is Powell's Books @ 10th & Burnside.

Any Oregon coastal spots you would recommend tomfuller?
