best Camden (Maine) inn?
We're looking for someplace that would be especially quiet and private. B&B's often lack real privacy and quiet, but we've found some inns in other towns that were terrific, i.e. had more privacy than B&B's usually do. (Not especially interested in "mixing" with owners or other guests.) Also need a king bed. (Mainstay seems not to have.) We tend not to like Victorian architecture and furnishings-- much prefer Georgian or "New England" styles. I'm hoping that some folks who know the Camden accommodations well can help me distinguish one from another. Mainly: which would be most quiet (no street or dog or other guest noise). And which has most handsome surroundings? Thanks very much.

We stayed at Norumbega in Camden last year. It is on the main road a little north of town. It is set pretty far back from the road and the groulds are very nice. We were in the lease expensive room which is on the small side but nice. It is downstairs from the main level and was very quiet. We had a door that went outside to the gardens.
This is a big stone house. It is quite expensive for some of the rooms -- We spent $160 plus a service fee per night but the next room is $250 and it goes up from there.
This is not an owner run bed and breakfast but the staff were very nice. Not much taffic when we were there -- one other couple the first night and no one else the second night.
An interesting place to stay.

Not all innkeepers force you to mix....keep that in mind. I am very good at reading my guests and often have ones who just want to be by themselves. That is fine by me! Others do want to talk to others and that is fine too. My accommodations (NO, not in Maine so this is not an ad) are very private and quiet! Again, don't judge all by what I think you may have had as a past experience!

The Camden Harbor Inn, where you can select your room from photos on their website http://www.camdenharbourinn.com/ is located a short walk from town and lots of restaurants. It's on a hill overlooking the bay, surrounded by lovely residences. "Our" room - P, is ground level in a two or three room annex attached to the inn. It's very large, has a private entrance, small private garden, and wood burning fireplace (with a fire laid for you each day). There's a huge wrap-around porch with nice furniture for relaxing and enjoying the views. Complimentary iced tea, lemonade, etc., are provided. Excellent breakfast included.
Another favorite is the Inn at Sunrise Point. Gorgeous rooms with huge windows and private decks for views to the bay. It's a short drive from Camden and the property is surrounded by trees. Amazing breakfasts.
There's also the Lodge at Camden Hills a short drive from town. Again, gorgeous rooms (some with full kitchens), private decks, views of the bay. This property is also secluded, surrounded by trees.
We don't care for B&B's either, so look for inns. We also enjoy going out for a waterside breakfast, rather than getting up early for included breakfast, so don't care if breakfast is included.

We stayed at Camden Harbour Inn and really enjoyed the view & room. We normally do not like B&Bs for their lack of privacy and mixing with everyone like you mentioned, however, Camden Inn was an exception.
If you can get a room on the front with a balcony you will have beautiful views of the water. I think they were 1, 2 and 3 if my memory serves me correctly.

Most of the Inns in Camden are situated on the "main roads" which are Elm Street and High Street. I stayed at the Hartstone Inn last summer which always gets rave reviews. It is located on Elm Street. The traffic noise was too much for me.
Next time I would try A Little Dream which is located on Elm Street. It is set back from the road so I assume less noisy.
