Best breakfast buffet on the Big Island

We are staying in the Waikoloa area of the BI and would like to go out for a nice breakfast with lovely ocean views a couple of times. Any suggestions?

The breakfast buffet at the Four Seasons is far better than any we found there and we checked out at least 10 different places. The food is excellent and the views are incredible.

The Mauna Lani has a nice buffet, too, with beautiful views.

While most of the nicer resorts have great breakfasts & brunches, be prepared to pay $35 or so per head.

We adored the breakfast buffet each morning at the Mauna Lani. It was superb and was a high point of each day. Expensive (about $25 for adults) but worth it.

Hi Carley,

Have you done those breakfast buffets before? Kind of like sitting down to a Thanksgiving dinner at 9am. Just in case you have not, I thought I would weigh in for yah. I usually only have room for them on each trip. Don't get me wrong I like doing at least one breakfast buffet but more than that I am not going to get off the couch. The one at the Waikoloa is pretty good. You are also going to be about 10-15 minutes driving from other locations. Do you really want to take up 30 minutes traveling for a breakfast? 40 minutes driving will take you to the Kohala Coast. Just a thought.

...just read slm3 really 10 really? Four Seasons does sound like a nice trip and great way to see the grounds of the hotel.

Carley, between the Mauna Lani and the Four Seasons there is a nice Howard Johnson's. Yes Howard Johnson's. Off the road a bit, but look for the towering orange roof. You can't miss it. They have a wonderful Surf and Turf sampler. The fresh baked stuffed dougnuts are not to be missed. I loved the coconut and pineapple dougnuts. And, it has a great view of the ocean which is blocked a bit by the hotel but none the less a cozy spot. Brunch is only about $7 per person including coffee.

Have fun.

sarah - we really did 10. we were there a month and my husband is a big fan of breakfast. of course after eating breakfasts like that there was no need (or room!) for lunch!

Sarah Jan 20th, 2004 04:12 PM

slm3 for future reference what was the price for brunch (I am guessing it was a brunch buffet) at the four seasons?

Carley it was always fun for me to try out brunches at different highend hotels.

WEloved our brunch at the Orchid/Fairmont. On the beach or in a huge veranda type room looking out at the beach. The one in the big room attached to the hotel would have fresh fish, a little different, every morning. WOuldn't have thought I would like fish for breakfast, but it was fantastic. Also these mac nut sticky buns that were awesome. We would dine on breaky for hours, reading the paper, drinking coffee. Very relaxing.

Not sure on the cost, was included with our package. But I would have paid good $$ for it. Don't need to worry about lunch that day.

The Mauna Kea is also about the most beautiful place I have ever laid my eyes on. I stopped there one morning to take my H for golf and stayed and had a cup of tea on their veranda. Now, if a whale had blown by, that would have been heaven in paradise.

sarah - its been close to a year but i believe the price at the four seasons was somewhere in the neighborhood of $35-39 per person.

Thanks for all the replies. Looking for breakfast only buffets not the brunch ones with everything from breakfast lunch and dinner included.

Sarah Jan 21st, 2004 08:37 AM

Carley those brunch buffets when they are good are not what you may be thinking. I am guessing you are talking about the ones with the carved roast beef and a gentleman standing behind in a chefs hat? The higher end brunchs are more sushi, miso soup, handmade chocolates along with breakfast fare. Just so you know. Really great for a try and SLM not bad for the four seasons.

Ok Carley not trying to hyjack your thread. Just wanted you to know something of what you are looking away from. Perhaps you already knew.

Anybody else looking for great views and good breakfast food!

Carley Jan 21st, 2004 10:58 AM

Maybe I'm not wording this properly but what I really want is a nice breakfast only buffet with views of the oceans. We will be in a condo and thought it would be nice to go out for a nice breakfast buffet a couple of mornings. We have done the breakfast buffet at Swan Court at the Hyatt in Maui and it is just perfect compared to a huge brunch. Have also done brunches and they are great too but this time I just want a breakfast. Hope this clears it up. Thanks for all the replies. Can hardly wait. We go the 2th of Feb.

The breakfast buffet at the Mauna Lani is just a regular breakfast buffet. We ate it every morning on our June '03 honeymoon so I can even tell you what's on the menu! There's an omelette bar where the chef will make whatever you want, a waffle bar with toppings, and a table with hot breakfast buffet items (scrambled eggs, breakfast meats, potatoes, and usually Eggs Benedict). There was also a big fruit selection, cereals, juices, muffins, and whatever kind of bread you want for toast. Finally, there was a small section with miso soup, fish, and rice. Servers bring you coffee and tea. It cost about $25 pp. as someone above mentioned. Hope that helps! :)
