Best Botanical Garden Kauai

So, what is the best botanical garden on Kauai? We are staying in Poipu.

Happy planning! ~ Thanks!!

Allerton.

McBryde is also very nice, but smaller and more like an Arboretum.

Lumahuli is larger and a nice walk with fantastic views.

The North Shore - from Princeville/Hanalei and beyond to Ke Beach at the end of the road - is one big Botanical garden. :)

I've only been to the Limahuli, great place, really enjoyed it, mostly native Hawaiian plants, terrific views of the ocean from up there and you can do a self-guided tour or guided.

Allerton is just a world unto to it's own. Marvellous place.

Allerton, it is a beautiful place and our guide was super funny.

Allerton is worth visiting numerous times. There are different tours and different guides for variety's sake. Ask when David is giving a tour.

There are three gardens in the south that are often overlooked: the great Mohr Cactus Garden at Kiuhana Plantation, the orchid garden at Plantation Gardens Restaurant, and the incredibly cool Japanese garden in the middle of Kukioloni Golf Course in Kalaheo.

It's fun paying a visit to Kauai Orchids in Kilauea when it's open.

Also in the North, and close to Kauai Orchids, is the spectacular Na Aina Kai, a private garden that offers tours of different lengths.

Limihuli is wonderful. Its spirit of place is palpable, and the views are amazing. We've done the self-guided tour as well as two guided tours; one of the guides was less than wonderful, but there is some interesting plant history that the guides offer.

Of course, if you want to enjoy gardens, just drive around and keep your eyes open. Everywhere you turn you'll find a house with something wonderful.

On our most recent visit, for instance, we were driving down a quiet side street in Poipu and came across a house with about a hundred bonsai; the person who cares for them saw us stop our car and invited us to walk his garden. Cool beyond belief!
