Best Boston Itinerary

We are going to Boston On Friday for 3nights and 4 days and would like the best itinerary including time for shopping. We are taking our 20 year old daughter.
We've never beeen to Boston and we want to see Harvard and the historic sights.

What kind of shopping are you looking for? There's plenty of boutique-y shopping in Harvard Square. I'd plan on spending an entire afternoon in Cambridge (Take the Red Line to Harvard Square).

we are from Canada and love shopping in the States. We are looking for the department stores and all the regular chain stores. What should we do in Cambridge other than see Harvard. Is the Kennedy Library there?

The Kennedy Library is not it Cambridge, it's in Dorchester, but it's on the red line (as is Harvard Sq) so it would be easy to do both in one day.

The main shopping area in Boston where all the chains are is Copley Sq/Back Bay. You can start off at the Copley Mall and Prudential Center and then work your way down Newbury St toward the Boston Common. That should take a full day.

I also really like Beacon Hill, no chains, but lots of cute boutiques and antique shops. The North End also has some nice boutiques so you could combine that with lunch or dinner, it's the Italian section and it's very picturesque with tons of great restaurants.

Sounds like I need comfy shoes for all that strolling.I hope there are good eats along the way.

Boston does indeed have good eats. Would heartily recommend a search here on earlier threads, or better yet, at the Chowhound website.

Plenty of good eats! Make sure to go to the Northend. Or for affordable redsauce italian, Giaccaomo's on Columbus is a hangout of mine. Great fra diavlo, parm , calamari etc...

Where you are staying and price and food preference could help

Alvin Ailey is in town, if you like dance.
big Apple Circus, Aquarium and Copley are good places if the rain is more than a drizzle. As would be the JFK Library on the Red Line.

Not all 20 year olds are created equal. Your daughter may or may not like Urban Outfitter. There is a location in Harvard Square, the top of Newbury and in Fanuel Hall.

Make her take a swanboat ride in the Public Gardens if the line isn't too long! She'll likely roll her eyes, but it is coming of age, everybodies gotto do it. I was just strolling thru the Gardens and Charles street this evening. Perfect tulips and flowering trees - you are in for a treat as far as the passage of spring.
