best boston hotels
 

my dh and i are going to boston from oct. 9-13 and want to stay in an awesome hotel that is close to everything--suggestions please

this question doesn't really give us enough...whats awesome? view? service? big rooms? romance? what budget?

Boston is pretty small. Just about everything is close. But do you want really close to the harbor, sightseeing? or to shopping?

with nothing else to go on, I have to agree with gyppielou...4 Seasons, Boston Harbor. Maybe the Taj (former Ritz Carlton on the public gardens).

I would add Fifteen Beacon to Gyppie's list.

definition of awesome: romantic, great bar, waterfront, close to sightseeing, under $500 per night.

How important is "waterfront"? That really narrows your options since several of the fancy hotels are in the Back Bay (which isn't a bay any more).

too bad, harbor view rooms at the Boston Harbor hotel are $675 for your dates.

Waterfront really is tougher, there just aren't that many hotels. You can try the Marriot Long Wharf, which is nice, and in a nice location. It doesn't have a great bar, but its close to some places.

I think I would look at the Liberty Hotel. It's a really interesting one, and definitely has a great bar and is romantic. No harbor views though.

The Fairmont Copley Plaza has an awesome bar (the Oak Bar), and is in Back bay. No water but it fits your other criteria, and might be more reasonably priced.

We stayed at the Marriott Long Wharf, and the location was great for us - close enough to walk to the North End for dinner, right next to the T, next to the Aquarium, and the whale watching boats. It's located right between a nice park and the waterfront. It doesn't have a great bar, but it's convenient to get to other spots. Be sure to ask for a room with a view.

I would pick what is most important to you - if you want waterfront - don't worry about it having a great bar - Boston is a small, walkable city - if your hotel does not have a great bar, the one down the street will :)

I would say all the hotels on the waterfront would fit your bill - I prefer the Boston Harbor hotel - that being said, I prefer to be in the Back Bay/Copley area , but I see the water all the time -

I also tend to lean toward an 'older' hotel like the Fairmont Copley (which does have a great bar and one of the best steaks in Boston in the Oak Room ) ...you can tell I'm partial !

Bar in Liberty Hotel is fun, but different than bar/with light music say like the Taj bar or the Copley - I enjoyed it but thought it was loud, crowded and lots of people much younger than I - so I suppose your age would matter also -

water really isn't that important--i have never been there, so didn't realize that there weren't that many hotels on the water. thanks for all of your suggestions so far!!

I'd go with the Intercontinental. It is waterfront and is in the very low $300 range at kayak.com.

I'd choose Nine Zero. It's not waterfront but it has everything else you're looking for.

We've stayed at the Intercontinental 18 months ago. The rooms were very modern but warm - lots of dark woods. The bathroom was luxurious but our "waterfront" view was just okay. We looked at the Fort Point Channel with a distant view of the harbor. Not bad but not outstanding either. I can't comment on the bar as we were with the kids but I've heard that the bar can be kind of hopping. We did enjoy the pool, spa and workout room.

Nine zero is another great choice. I love the Intercontinental location and sitting out under their gas torches on the water, and walking the water from there to the North end checking out yachts and the scene. And altough more homogonized I can vouch for Westins Heavenly Beds in Copley - request a high room with river view.
