Best Boston Hotel Location
 

I am treating my husband to a weekend in Boston in late September for his 50th birthday. Want a hotel or condo within walking distance of the heart of Boston. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Have looked through the various postings, but confused as to where is the best area to stay.

Copley Square, Pru Center, Newbury St areas would be good choices.

The Back Bay is the most convenient. Copley Marriott, Westin Copley, Back Bay Hilton, Eliot, Charlesmark, Lenox to name a few.

As with most judgments of what is "best," it's very subjective. The Back Bay/Copley/Prudential area is convenient, especially if you're into shopping. But it's the newer, landfill part of town.

If you want to be in the true, historic heart of Boston, you have to be farther east, toward the downtown/waterfront/Faneuil Hall/Freedom Trail area. Plenty of wonderful hotels there, too.

The part of Boston that interests most visitors is very compact and walkable; whichever area you stay in, you'll be within hiking distance of the rest of it.

Just to clarify, the Back Bay encompasses Newbury St, the Pru and Copley Square. It also technically includes Kenmore Sq (where Fenway Park is located) and the area closer to the Boston Common where there are several good hotels as well.

There are a couple of brand new hotels by the South Boston waterfront, the Intercontinental and the Westin. Lots of choices, post back if you need more ideas.

There are a couple boutique hotels that are great... Fifteen Beacon and the Onyx hotel. Some with a Boston Harbor view and easy walk.. the Long Wharf Marriott and The Boston Harbor Hotel ar. Of course the Four Seasons is right on Boston Common with Copley Plaza hotel not too far away. A couple nice ones near there but a few blocks away.. The Sheraton Back Bay on Dalton street is nice.

Also the Charles Hotel in Cambridge in Harvard Square. I think you have three choices of areas to stay 1) a hotel within walking distance of Copley Square/Back Bay/Beacon Hill 2) Anything on the waterfront with walking distance to North End and Quincy Market/Fanueil Hall 3) Harvard Square Good luck!

I am going to Boston for a weekend trip. I just booked the Boston Marriott Long Wharf...is that centrally located to do the freedom trail and see Boston?

Marriott Long Wharf is on the waterfront quite close to the Freedom Trail, the North End and the Aquarium. It is a great tourist location with lots of activity. You may need to get on the T to go into Back Bay, but that is very easy.
