best beach town for 4 single 45 yr olds

We just returned from Puerto Vallarta where we had a blast. So much so that we are planning another trip. We want a beach town in USA or maybe Mexico again . What we want is a beach, a laid back place, fun places for single mid age women to go and still go dancing ,eating out, great beach bars for happy hours. With a people in 30', 40', 50's not just collage kids although we love thier energy too!We loved Puerto Vallarta (romantica Zone ) we went last year to New Symrna Beach Fla. and loved it too. So any ideals on some fun funky places for some fun gals? Thanks for any input!

I suggest DelMar Ca- they have a nice happy hour at the DelMar Plaza- great beach, and if you tire of that beach there are plenty more up and down the coast. Great places to eat out in the many beach towns- Lajolla, Carlsbad,
Solana Beach and easy access to downtown San Diego .
My favorite beachtown is Carlsbad - but dont know about places to go dancing there - but guess there would be some close by.

South Beach, Miami.

Thanks for the info . I think Miami is to ritzy and young for us we like it low key with casual places . I love Miami for what it is but not this trip.

Playa del Carmen (south of Cancun)

I'm 41 and my husband is 51 and we love South Beach! I think you are selling South Beach too short.

I disliked South Beach a lot during the late 1990s up until early 2002. The vibe changed and it is really growing into its own.

I highly suggest you rethink South Beach.

No beaches but Key West is also a great funky town on the water.

MissVicki Jun 16th, 2006 11:46 AM

I do love key west too! But would like to stay on the water.

Why not Newport, RI my home state Plenty to see and do- mansions, nightlife, beaches. Can't compare with Mexico but then it's New England.

If you want West Coast, I'll second the Del Mar/ La Jolla/ Solana Beach, Carlsbad area. Lots of dining options, shopping and night live. And very close to San Diego for day trips (there's a train called the Coaster you could use).

Hi MissVicki

In Mexico try Playa del Carmen (not Cancun), Zihuatanejo (not ixtapa)

as others have mentioned it's easier to keep track of the information if you stick to just one post, instead of making three different ones

Go back to Puerto Vallarta. You will not like Florida.

starrsville Jun 22nd, 2006 09:46 PM

Haleiwa, Hawaii

bobrad Jun 23rd, 2006 02:21 AM

Don't come to Florida !

MissVicki Jun 23rd, 2006 08:28 AM

As a matter of fact we love Florida and have done Anna Maria Island 3 times , New Symrna Beach once, The Keys, and Sanibel Island. I was born in Florida and lived there until I was a teen ager my father worked at the Cape. Thanks to all for help

As I posted in one of your other 85 threads that you keep sending TTT, I think you should go to Iraq or Cuba.

I had another thought, since you said that you love Puerto Vallarta perhaps you should consider Oaxaca, the area of Mexico that is currently experiencing major uprisings. Even though it's supposedly not ripe for tourism right now due to the uprisings, I think it would be a perfect destination for 4 single 45 year olds who are young at heart.

mah1980 Jun 23rd, 2006 09:33 AM

TTT because all of these threads are way too funny.

obxgirl Jun 23rd, 2006 09:38 AM

Stop it please.

I agree the OP was getting annoying with all the questions but you are out of line suggesting Iraq as a vacation spot. Lots of us have family members and friend in Iraq and it ain't a vacation.

mah1980 Jun 23rd, 2006 09:42 AM

Obviously I was joking about Iraq in response to the OP's many threads. I guess you can't even mention the word "Iraq" without getting the usual Bill O'Reilly nonsense. I'm so glad we live in a country that allows people to have free speech and senses of humor.

If you liked Anna Maria Island, you may well like Fort Myers Beach. FBM has a more crowded "downtown" area, but is pretty similar in patrionage and atmosphere. But then I wouldn't have chosen AMI based on your criteria listed in your original post.

BTW, I really love the little greek tavern restaurant in the center of FMB right on the beach. Is it still there?
