Best Beach to stay in North Florida/South Georgia

Due to the oil spill, we are canceling our trip to Destin, FL and moving over to the Atlantic side. Prefer North Florida/South Georgia, as we will be driving from Dallas, TX

Looking for GREAT beachfront properties, kid friendly, and great pool on property as well.

Thanks for any advice. We are going in early August.

Amelia Island - no contest.

As much as SAnParis2 likes Amelia Island, I feel that there are other options too. You don't say what your budget is. If you want to go high end (e.g. AAA 4-diamond ratings), then you might like one of the Ponte Vedra resorts: http://www.pvresorts.com Somewhat less luxurious (AAA 2-3 diamond ratings) would be some of the St. Augustine Beach/Crescent Beach resorts. Those beaches are nice too. It really depends on how much luxury you are willing to pay for.

I also love Amelia Island hands-down, but Orlando_Vic has asked some good questions too regarding more info on what you're looking for. Not only is the price range and type of property you want important, but what kind of activities does your family enjoy? Are you more outdoors lovers? what about dining preferences? Also, what age are the children? The more information you can give the better advice you'll get back :-)

The Cloister on Sea Island, GA, the Ritz Carlton on Amelia Island, FL, or the Ponte Vedra resorts are your nicest choices. If your budget is lower, look at St. Augustine, FL or Jekyll Island, GA. There are many threads here on Fodors about these areas.

You need to book asap. I have a rental property on the beach in SC that rented out for the summer within a couple weeks after the oil spill. Many families who usually vacation on the Gulf have moved their vacations to the Pacific this summer already.

May also depend on the age of your kids as many resorts are not necessarily 'kid friendly' + I am not a resort person, personally. for Amelia Island you can easily rent a condo a block off the beach for a week, for what a weekend at the Ritz would cost.
