Best beach in MA or ME ?
 

Would like to know great beaches in the MA and ME area !

Coast Guard Beach, Eastham, Cape Cod, Mass

Nauset Beach, Orleans,MA.

Ogunquit Beach, Ogunquit, ME.

All National Seashore beaches including Coast Gaurd Beach - Cape Cod Ma.

Ogunquit Beach, Me.

Parsons Beach off Rt 9 K'bunk
Reid State Park and Popham.

Plum Island is my favorite beach - except for the greenheads in July, large portions being closed to the public during piping plover nesting season, the too cold water and too rough waves - other than that it's great. I love it because it is beautiful with dunes, eel grass, beach plums and a variety of wildlife, large portions are part of a national park so there is no development and crowds are limited.

It all depends on what you are looking for. Popham beach in Maine is calm. Can walk out quite a way during the summer to a little island off shore.
In Mass., there is a beach called Marconi in South Wellfleet which is the National Seashore is awesome. The cliffs are beautiful, watch the undertow but the waves can be nice. They have outdoor enclosed showers for men and women. One of the best beaches I have ever partied on is South Beach in Edgartown on Marthas vineyard. If you catch it after a storm, the waves can be intense.

There are so many kinds of beaches on the Cape, it's hard to choose one. If you want scenic and unspoiled, with lighthouses and a surf, then the National Seashore beaches are what you want. If you want calm, warm water, then go to the south shore beaches. If you want vast expanses of sand flats, lots of shells and fairly calm water, choose the bay beaches. I agree that for Maine, Ogunquit is probably the best, but Wells Beach and Kennebunkport's Goose Rocks are also very nice. There are some nice smaller beaches up along the coast, and of course Old Orchard which has a great beach but somewhat honkey tonk atmosphere.

If you actually want to swim in the water, you might opt for MA beaches, as the water is warmer. I love going to Maine but find the water is s-o-o-o- cold, no matter what time of year we go.

Edgartown! Wasnt Jaws (1974) made there ? Looks like a beautiful place in the movie.

Can be crowded, but Cape Ann,, MA - Good Harbor and Singing Beach.

Crane's Beach in Ipswich MA, although like Plum Island the water is very, very cold.

South Beach on Martha's Vineyard
East Beach (Chappaquidick) on Martha's Vineyard.

And yes, Jaws was filmed in Edgartown, and at the Lighthouse beach near Edgartown.

Just as a FYI - in general, beach water temps for the Atlantic are considerably cooler once you get north of Nantucket Sound. That's why Martha's Vinyard waters are generally warmer than mid Cape waters. Maine temps are cooler still, although I have experienced a few days when Maine water temps were actually bearable.
