Best area to live in Denver
Our daughter is moving to Denver this summer for school. We are thinking of purchasing a small residence for her. Do you have an opinion about where the better (safer) areas in Denver are?
|
John, we need more information before we can give good advice. Is she moving to attend a university? Does she want to be close to the university? Do you wish to purchase a home in Denver or would you prefer a suburb? Denver has alot of sprawl, so there are alot of places to choose from. FYI - Denver housing costs are pretty inflated. Do you have a price range in mind? By residence, do you mean house or condo?

That said, in general west of Colorado Boulevard and SOuth of COlfax will be safer. And more expensive

Thanks for the reply, Sam. She will be doing a medical residency at The Univ. of Colo. We would like to spend less than $160,000 for a house or condo in a safe neighbourhood near the school or hospitals. She WANTS to live in Washington Park but the housing prices there seem more than we can afford. Any advice from Denverites is appreciated.
Thanks,
John

Charles, the areas you are speaking about, do they have neighbourhood names, as I am discovering it is easier to do a search with names or specific direstions ie: NW Denver etc...
Thanks for taking the time to respond,
John

John

Interestingly enough my girlfriend did her residency at UCHSC. This changes things. UCHSC is in the process of moving to Aurora, (north east of Denver) in fact to a pretty bad neighborhood. I certainly wouldn't buy a place nearby, though they will be exceedingly cheap.

That said, you might have a look at congress park. Its the most convenient to the med school very safe neighborhood in denver. Park hill is more convenient, but not quite as safe. My girlfriend lived there before moving to congress park. Denver is surprisingly less safe in general than it would appear, but no more so than any other major american city. The surprising part is that it is no more so - in fact its less safe than Manhattan.

Wash park wouldn't be bad, but its a bit more of a commute. I would NOT go west of colorado and north of colfax. Its a nice enough neighborhood, and I might live there myself, but there have been some pretty bad crimes against single young females there over the last 5 years

Thank you both for your responses.
John
