Best area in Maine?

Hi, I will be spending three days in Maine this fall. Would like to know what you think would be the best town to stay in. Since I only have three days I want to make sure I stay where I can see the most in that short period of time. Also any suggestions on B&B's in that area would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Going up the coast I would check out Kennebunkport and Portland. Portland is best in my book. Old Port is beautiful with some of the greatest restaurants on the EAST COAST. If you want a very upscale B&B try the White Barn in Kennebunkport.
Camden and Bar Harbor (Acadia National Park) are my two favorites. Check out www.visit-maine.com

We think that Arrows in Ogunquit, Maine, is one of the best restaurants anywhere...

Each time I am in Portland I try to go to a different restaurant. I find Portland to be a place with very inovative chefs. So far my favorite restaurants are:
Rachel's on Exchange st.
Cotton St. Cantina on Cotton Street
Street & Co. on Wharf Street
and of course a pint at Gritty McDuff's.
Portland has come a long way in the past few years.

I use to live in Maine.
Old Orchard Beach (OOB) is about half-way between Portland and Kennebunk. There's the Atlantic Breeze Motel, 46 Saco Ave., Old Orchard Beach, ME (207) 934-4208. Concorde, 136 W Grand Ave., Old Orchard Beach, ME (207) 934-9673. In the fall a lot of the town starts to close down - it's really a summer vacation spot that has a beach, pier containing shops and a bar, amusement park rides, the "strip" full of clubs-stores-food (the Brunswich is off of the strip onlong the beach and a popular place for locals and visitors, during the summer they have bands).
Saco (5 mins west of OOB)is the town next to Old Orchard Bearch. Off of Route 1, you have Funtown USA an amusement park, Aqualand water park, some motels, grocery plaza. Classic Motel, 21 Ocean Park Rd, Saco, ME (207) 282-5569 is very nice and they have kitchenettes, indoor pool, near to main roads (Rt. 1 that runs along the coast, and access to the turnpike). Wormwood's Restaurant 16 Bay Ave. Saco, ME (207) 282-9679.
The Old Port (sub-part of Porland, aprx. 30 mins north of OOB) is a great place to walk around. You've got clubs, shops, cobble side walks, resturants within that area. There's Holiday Inn, 88 Spring St., Portland, ME (207) 775-2311. Bed & Breakfast On The West, 146 Pine St., Portland, ME (207) 772-1377. For resturants go to Di Millo's Floating Restaurant, 25 Long Wharf Portland, ME (207) 772-2216.
Anthor area of interest is Freeport, ME (aprx. 45-60 mins north of OOB). A quaint area that has a lot of outlets. Village Inn, 186 Main St., Freeport, ME (207) 865-3236. Freeport Inn & Cafe, 31 Route 1, Freeport, ME (207) 865-3106.
Kittery, ME (aprx. 45 mins south of OOB)is known for its outlets on Route 1.
Bar Harbor, ME (aprx. 90-120 mins north of OOB)quaint area along the coast.
Check these webistes for further info:
http://findmaine.com
http://www.visitmaine.com
http://www.mainecamping.addr.com
Enjoy your visit to Maine!!

Do you need a rental car in Portland?

By fall, Bar Harbor should be less crowded.
In high-season, I stayed north of Bar Harbor adia in Prospect Harbor. The little coves north of Bar Harbor are very quite and peaceful. When talking about Maine, it seems most ignore the great north woods. I think the camps in the Moosehead lake region are also fantastic
