Best and worst hotels in NYC?

Im planning to go to New York in November and would love some advice on the accommodation available. I need something under $120 and in a fairly busy location (as I will be travelling alone). Any feedback will be appreciated.

For under $120-I do not think you will be staying in one of the Best hotels in NYC-

Unless travel remains down throughout 2002, getting a hotel room in November (prime Christmas season) in NYC for under $120, can be pretty tricky.

Lots of people on this site have had success with priceline and quickbook for deals in NYC. You might try those as the date gets closer.

A couple of other inexpensive suggestions: Pickwick Arms (51st between 2nd & 3rd); Habitat Hotel (57th & 3rd -- www.habitatny.com). Both have rates for single rooms that are cheap.

Try the Red Roof Inn on 32nd St. Unlike its numerous motel counterparts along the country's highways, it's a for-real hotel and in a very convenient location (a block from Herald Square shopping and the Empire State Building). Surrounded by very interesting Korean restaurants too.

Under $120 in Manhattan will be tough. You can try the Best Western President on 48th. We got a room there New Year's Eve for $160, so it may be lower other times of the year.

The hotel is in an excellent location, just off Broadway and near theaters and restaurants, and a walkable distance to the Central Park area, Rockefeller Center, etc.

The staff is friendly and helpful. Rooms are small but clean and well maintained.

Rachel, keep in mind that if you want to spend a maximum of $120 per night, you're actually looking for something in the $100-105 range, as there are taxes to be added!
