Best airport for FL panhandle beaches?

Which is the closest major airport? Getting an inexpensive flight from NYC is key to our visiting there, so where do we fly into and how far is the drive after that?

Thanks!

That totally depends on which beach you are talking about in the Panhandle.

Check out Pensacola, FL, and Mobile, AL. If you can get a good deal, New Orleans might be worth the drive (a little over 3 hours). ((b))

Try Pensacola, then mobile. Mobile is a couple of hours from Destin, three to Panama City... New Orleans is 2 1/2 hours from Mobile. So, Pensacola might be your best bet! Have fun!

Thanks everyone, I really thought Florida airports would be closer...I was looking at Rosemary beach, Seacrest and Carillon.

Hmmm, I didn't realize they were that far away...I may have to rethink this!

Ft Walton Beach airport is much, much closer than the above mentioned airports. It's still a little drive though--at least 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic.

When we stayed in Panama City Beanch, we flew in and out of Tallahassee, then drove.
