Best airport for California Wine Country?

Any advice for best airport for Napa/Sonoma access? Best rates? Distance? THANK YOU.

Assuming you're talking about commercial flights, you can pick from Oakland, San Francisco Intl, San Jose, or Sacramento. San Jose is about the farthest and from there and SFO, you'll have to cross one of the bay bridges which can be a bit of a bottleneck depending on traffic. Which will have the best rates depends a lot on from where you are flying and how much in advance you make your reservations.

From a pure ease of getting there, Sacramento would probably be the best choice but it is probably also going to be most expensive and inconvenient from most starting points.

I once picked up my sister from Sacto airport and drove to Sonoma. Was surprised that it only took 1 hour. I had expected it to take longer than that. Picked her up around 10 am. No stops. Depending on your starting location you can take Southwest to Oakland or Sacrmento.

We used to favor Oakland, now it is Sacramento(if we can get a reasonable flight). It is smaller, you can get through security faster (and with a better attitude) and parking is so much easier. If you take 5 to Woodland and go through Davis onto 80, it is a less stressful drive (well IF you don't miss the signs!) than going all the way back into Sacramento to catch I-80.

I, too, recommend Sacramento. Avoids traffic (SFO to valley) and easy airport.

Flying from the east coast, we got such great rates flying into SFO, it was a no brainer. I think we lucked out and got roundtrip airfare from Charleston, SC for about $250 per person.

For convinence I would choose Sacramento first, then Oakland. SJ and SF would be a toss up. If you can get a good deal on a flight into Sacramento, then take it. Otherwise try for Oakland. It's not a huge deal to get to the wine country from SJ or SF though, so if the price is right, it's probably worth it.

Sacramento would be my first choice followed by Oakland. Usually Sacramento is more expensive than Oakland.

I agree with the other posts. Where are you flying from? I found an awesome rate from Las Vegas to Oakland on Aloha Airlines for $100- RT !!
