Best Airport For Baltimore
 

I'll be flying into Baltimore late October from Atlanta. Seems like prices are more expensive for BWI. If I go to IAD how close will I be to Baltimore? Will I need a car or is there a transit system?

BWI, definitely.

IAD (Dulles) is in virgina, about 20-30 miles west of DC. you would definitely need a car/shuttle from Dulles to baltimore and that would be costly and incovenient.
i'd say if your destination is Baltimore, fly into BWI. whatever you'd save on a flight into Dulles (or National) would just end up getting spent on a shuttle. (plus you'd lose over an hour each way travel time)

I have never seen much of a difference in air fare for those two airports, and I just use the one with the best schedule, as I live almost right in-between the two (luckily for me).

The idea of trying to save a couple bucks and then spending hours of time getting between the points sounds crazy to me, but only you can decide that. If you were really lucky and maybe in the middle of the night, you might be able to drive between them in about 1.5 hours. That is with zero traffic issues. I live in the middle around Silver Spring, and it takes about 45 minutes from Dulles when there is absolutely no traffic. Of course, that is probably never going to happen during the day.

How much money can you possibly save by flying into IAD? I used to hear lots of folks claim BWI was cheaper than IAD, but I never saw it myself.

The public transportation between the two is not convenient.

BWI is a fine airport well located for a trip to Baltimore.
