I sent a letter to Chick-Fil-A complaining that there were none in NYC. I got a letter back with a package to open my own franchise, and a coupon for a free sandwich. Sigh.

Recently I found out through chowhound that NYU has a chick-fil-a in one of their cafeterias. I am trying to get my hands on an NYU ID card. Will keep all addicts posted.

flatfeet Jul 19th, 2006 05:52 PM

Get outta here! I live six blocks from NYU! Bugswife you have made my day...the hunt is on...

Failing that I heard there's a CFA in a jersey mall close to the city.

kswl Jul 19th, 2006 06:34 PM

There is a Dwarf House/ Chick Fil A here in Griffin, complete with the little door. On any given day you can see kids going in, and out, and in, ... They have all the regular CFA menu and extra "dwarf house only" items, too. The DH is sit down, but you can do CFA carry out in the back or drive thru. Wonderful!

Daytrip Alert: Truett Cathey has a ranch in The Rock, Ga., called (what else?) The Rock Ranch, that is a working farm. On it live about 12 of his foster children. They are nice kids, go to the local school, help out on the farm. In the fall, they grow a corn maze (maize maze, lol) in the cursive writing of "Chick fil-a." It's a lot of fun to go through, especially around Halloween. Corn cannons, hot dogs and hamburgers, hayrides, up close and personal with Sophie, the resident ostrich, train ride, etc. This is a fab fall outing for those of you in Atlanta with kids/ grandkids.

starrsville Jul 19th, 2006 06:37 PM

I didn't know he owned The Rock. I drive past there every once in a while. His Camp Winshape is a great kids' camp.

kswl Jul 19th, 2006 06:51 PM

Yes, The Rock, Ga. Right between Barnesville and Thomaston, Starrsville! You know we're world travelers when we know our way around Lamar and Upson Counties! :D

starrsville Jul 19th, 2006 06:57 PM

It's on the route I take to Columbus.

Someone in my corporate headquarters just loves "Butts County"!

trippinkpj Jul 19th, 2006 07:11 PM

I'm in Nor Cal. I've only been to in CFA once: in San Luis Obispo on the Cal Poly U campus. It was pretty darn good. I had an Atlanta native tell me about it a few years back, and said i had to try one. :-)

This would be an oxymoron, or perhaps a better title would be the 'Best of the worst'. I do like the little wine bar joint in Philly.

Fodorite018 Jul 27th, 2006 01:53 PM

Caper's Cafe at PDX. Nice to be able to have food made to order, and light options!

mvpl Jul 27th, 2006 01:56 PM

Now that I'm drooling - I'll be in Denver airport twice in the next 2 week. Is there any place decent to eat?

AustinTraveler Jul 27th, 2006 02:04 PM

We were at DEN in May and I have to say it was the worst food selection we've ever seen. We finally ended up grabbing a pizza at Wolfgang Pucks.

SFO's food selection rocks, as does Austin's if I say so myself!

Stephanie Jul 27th, 2006 06:32 PM

I'm not bias because I live in the area, but Pittsburgh International. Before 9/11, I use to travel to the airport to shop for unique items and the food selection is similar to Minneapolis, not quite all the restaurants but a very nice selection.

BayouGal Jul 27th, 2006 06:42 PM

There is a deli-type sandwich shoppe in the Salt Lake City airport that serves sandwiches on fresh baked bread - excellent! :)

Neopolitan Jul 27th, 2006 07:16 PM

"Best" is still a relative term. This thread is sort of like "Which Turkish prison were they the nicest to you in?"

ElendilPickle Jul 27th, 2006 08:01 PM

Friardave, New Mexican food differs from Tex-Mex or Cal-Mex in that the sauces are chile-based, as opposed to tomato-based with chile added. Red chile is red chile cooked and pureed with seasonings; green chile is, well, green chile with garlic, onion, etc. Sometimes tomatillos are part of a green chile sauce as well.

When you order at a New Mexican restaurant, you will be asked, "Red or green?" That's our official state question, BTW. :-) If you want both, just answer "Christmas."

Dave,
Lee Ann has given you a good idea as to the difference in NM food vs. mexican. Also, NM chile [note: with an "E" at the end] is nothing like chili [with "i" at the end] which is with beans and meat like the stuff on chilidogs.

Also, if you are new to NM chiles, better to ask for it on the side. The heat factor can knock your socks off! And there are long standing debates as to which is better [I vote green]. The level of heat varies from place to place and even from batch to batch some times.

It is just the start of chile season in NM and the aroma of roasting chiles is one that makes grown men weap. Yummmmm.

And as far as Chick A Filet, I believe there is one in the Danbury Mall for those NYer's in need of a fix.

And if you are in ABQ, there's one near Cottonwood Mall.

Bayougal, I think we ate at that deli in the Salt Lake airport last summer. It was wonderful! and very, very clean, as all of SLC. Good bagels, too--

Did you by any chance visit the Bada** coffee shop in Park City?

eyeski Jul 28th, 2006 01:01 PM

Corky's in the Memphis airport. Great BBQ.

BayouGal Jul 28th, 2006 01:14 PM

No we didn't, kswl. But if it's a good one, I'll definitely add it to the my Utah travel list. The name alone is worth a stop for an interesing photo op! ;-)

MrsKiss Jul 28th, 2006 07:15 PM

My vote: Pittsburgh Airport! Lots of variety. ;)

luvtravl Jul 29th, 2006 06:37 AM

Oakland International Airport has a burrito place with FANTASTIC breakfast quesadillas. As far as airports with lots of choices, we were pleasantly surprised at the options Newark Liberty offered during a recent layover there. Lots of restaurant and shopping and the prices were not jacked up like you find at many airports.

friardave Jul 30th, 2006 07:16 AM

Debi and Lee Ann...thanks...your replies help...i am from san diego and love mex food here...am going to albuquerque in 2 days to explore possible relocation...looking forward to trying some different foods

DebitNM Jul 30th, 2006 07:18 AM

Dave -- do a search at the top of the page...type in Albuquerque or Albuquerque restaurants and find some really informative threads.

If you have any other Q's...post or email me.

Hope this helps...

As above posters have mentioned, I always enjoy my layovers at the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport. And it's pretty easy to navigate too. Plenty of fun shops and many many eating establishments. I have had 4-hr. layovers in the past, and sometimes I jump a shuttle to the Mall of America. Very easy and quick. (I don't do this with less than 4 hrs----that would make me too nervous.) On another topic, we often ski in CO over spring break, so we usually connect through Denver. My newest FAVE restaurant there is "Que Bueno". I LOVE it!! Great Mexican food. Everytime I'm there I see airline personnel eating there.....they obviously know how great it is too. Last time I was there I had a cheese quesadilla that came with about 5 sides.....wonderful guacamole, yummy salsa, I think some sour cream, jalapenos, etc. Check it out next time you're at DIA. Que Bueno!!
