Best 5 restaurants on the Big Island - let's update this.
I looked for this thread, but a lot of information was at least 2 years old. I'm looking for romantic atmosphere (beach views if possible) plus great food. Also, where are good places for lunch? We are staying at the Waikoloa Marriott for 4 days - lunch and dinner suggestions needed. Hilo for lunch and volcano for dinner 1 night. Thanks

Roy's (no beach view, but on a lake)
Provision Steak (Hilton) Ocean Front yummm |
The Marriott's Restaurant in Waikoloa is surprisingly good and quite atmospheric with good sunset views. We ate there twice, including again a surprisingly good buffet on a Friday night. We actually skipped Roy's; once restaurants opened all over the mainland Roy's lost it's cache with us, and Roy's always seems to be in some nondescript strip mall. We ate at both Cafe Pesto's, Merriman's, and Bamboo--all good.

The Pavillion at the Mauna Kea is nice for breakfast and dinner. Dinner was exceptionally good.
Pahuia at the 4 Seasons is nice too. We had breakfast there. Great hashbrowns. |
Dolciani, Please see recently topped post "Big Island and Kauai Restaurant suggestions"

While Roy's isn't really romantic, it did have the best food & service of the places we tried in April.

My favorite restaurant is the Keii Cafe about 15 minutes south of Kailua Kona. But my favorite dining experience was at the Hawaiian oasis Bed & Breakfast - if you call a day or two ahead, they will make you a romantic dinner set in their gorgeous palm garden. Carol is an amazing chef - ask her to make her crabcakes if you want a real treat. their website is:

Just returned from the BI and we found
3 places that you might want to try. Our best meal was at the Coast Grill at the Hapuna Prince hotel. Great food and a terrific sunset view from high up looking out at the ocean. Loved it. 2nd favotite was Brown's Beach house at the Fairmont. Good food, great service and another fabulous sunset right at beach level. Nice entertainment in the evening also. 3rd was the Canoe House at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel. This one was said to be the best on the island - but we thought the food was just "good" not great. But it also has a terrific view and is very relaxing. You can't go wrong with any of these. Note - Roy's does have good food - but is far from romantic. Too crowded. |
Keii CAfe--another vote.

Make it three for Keei!

Roys, is crowded and loud, but excellent cuisine. We got extra dishes to go, and really enjoyed it more on the beach at sunset, and on our deck or cool room.Exceptional chef!
LuLu's was perfect after snorkling, extremely casual, excellent wasabi ahi. Parker Ranch Grill was a wonderful lunch and we were very disapointed we ran out of time, wanted to have dinner there since our lunch we so delightful. Harbor House (Kona) was nice casual lunch outdoors. Hilton breakfast was all sugar, no flavor, but lovely setting for coffee. Honokaa, cafe next to Pacific Coast RealEstate, was wonderful local dining. |
