Berry Springs Lodge well situated for Great Smoky MountainNP?

Has anyone experience with Berry Springs Lodge?

Appreciate your input for how well situated it is for visiting Cades Cove, Sugarlands visitors centre , Roaring fork motor trail, and then travelling back to Asheville, via Clingsman Dome and Blue Ridge parkway. We will travelling there by car from Asheville airport, spend 3 days in GSMNP before heading back to Asheville for a few days.

I am worried specifically whether I can bypass the traffic jams in Gatlinburg, or if there are easy ways to go to GSMNP without having to struggle with the traffic in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.

Any input for your experience there or other comparable accommodation nearer to GSMNP will be much appreciated......

Many Thanks....

You didn't say exactly when you'd be in Gatlinburg. The weekends, holidays and during the fall colors is the most crowded time in Gatlinburg. Otherwise, you shouldn't be dealing with the horrible traffic. Personally, we prefer to stay in Townsend, also known as the quiet side of the Smokies. Townsend is on the west side of the park while Gatlinburg is on the east. Cades Cove is on the west side while Newfound Gap road begins on the east side.

With your itinerary, you would be better off staying in Gatlinburg, but again it depends on when you will be there. Driving back into Gatlinburg after a day in the park during weekends and busy seasons can take an hour from Sugarland Visitors Center just to go a few miles.

Keep in mind that during the summer months, Cades Cove is closed to cars on Wednesday and Saturday mornings until 10AM to allow bicyclists to ride the loop.

We will be there the third week of October.... during weekdays. Is there a way to bypass Gatlinburg to Berry Springs Lodge to and from GSMP?

Thanks

Weekdays is good! I couldn't figure out exactly where Berry Springs Lodge is located from their map. There is a by-pass from the park to the Pigeon Forge area, but if the road back into Gatlinburg from the park backs up during the 5-6 PM time, just getting to the by-pass can take a while too.
