Berkshires- budget hotels

Hello all! Has anyone had a recent experience at any of the budget hotels in the Berkshires? TripAdvisor wasn't much help.

We're going on a foliage trip next weekend and need to decide- yes, there are still rooms available! We are really only looking for a clean place to sleep since we'll be out and about most of the time.

Any preferences between Knight's Inn, Econolodge, Days Inn (all in Lenox) or Travelodge (Pittsfield)? I realize you get what you pay for, but if any of these are awful I'd like to avoid them!

Thanks in advance!

you might find this an option. Sorry I have no info on the places you mentioned in your post. A friend who goes out to that area regularly ( daughter in school at Williams) says it is good, clean and comfortable. Not glam by any means.

Thanks so much! I'll look into it. Glam is not necessary for this trip- just prefer a clean bed and no bugs! :)

For a fellow Tarheel, it is my pleasure.

Maple Terrace is booked, unfortunately, so I'm back to my "budget basics." But I'll definitely keep it in mind for the next trip!

Always glad to "meet" a fellow Heel! Are you a Tarheel by birth, or by school? (or both...)

Sorry, I just happened to know about the Maple Terrace because I will be staying there in a couple of weeks.
A Demon Deacon by school, a Tarheel for thirty years and a Californian by birth...that's probably TMI!

Oh Boy, Tarheels, you picked an expensive time of year to go to the Berkshires! We had tried to plan one in Oct and ran into the problem of everything being booked ( leaf peepers) and still high season ( if there is a room available, it won't be inexpensive).
The only places I can think of for you would be the Celerohn Motel in Hillsdale NY, Celerohn Motel -Route 22 N, Hillsdale NY , 518-325-3883 .
We stayed there a couple of times, revamped old motel, extremely nice owner and great location. Definitely bare bones though. No glam in sight! Or at least not when we were there.
Then there are a couple of "nice" motel/hotels along the # 7 in Great Barrington, I think Comfort Inn or Days Inn can be found there..
Good luck, how beautiful it is at this time of year~sigh! :)

Oh and btw- raised in NC :)

Thanks for the suggestions, Scarlett! You're right, it's definitely an expensive time of year. We gave up long ago on being able to afford a nice inn or B&B.
And I also know that at this late date, we need to take what we can get- but since there are some cheap options still out there, I'm hoping to find one that's not so bad.

And by the way, I'm a Tarheel by school (UNC Chapel Hill!), but my parents and husband were all born and raised in NC. So the ties go way back...and I'm just waiting for basketball season! :)

I'll bet you are waiting for basketball season....football has not been kind to the Heels.....(suppressed laughter inserted here by fans of the usually dreadful Deacons .....)
