Berkeley Springs/ Cacapon
Hi- I live in Maryland and am thinking about taking a day trip out to Berkeley Springs,WV. I ve heard a lot about it and looked at the map and was suprised at how close it is to where i live. My main question is what is there to do there other than the springs? There is Cacapon State Park south of Berkeley Springs, what is there? I am also thinking of driving to Paw Paw, WV and back into maryland to go see the Paw Paw Tunnel. How long is the hike from the parking lot to the tunnel?

The town is a cute little town to check out. On weekends they have a variety of festivals and "special" events frequently. Lots of hiking. U could probably get the trail locations thru chamber of commerce.
Cacapon Park has golf, fishing, swimming, lakes, hiking--its a little outside town. I think there is a Nature Center also there. Never been to Paw Paw so can't help there. |
Berkeley Springs has interesting shops, galleries and antique malls. It even has a castle, which is no longer open to the public. But, it is known for its spas and hot springs.

This is one of my favorite places in the world. Berkeley Springs does have the springs. You can take a bath in the spring water. You can have a massage. Look up www.berkeleysprings.com for lots of information. A nice place to eat in town is Tari's Cafe. They are listed on that website also. If you're only going for a day, I would concentrate my time in town. There are antique shops, herbal shops, arts and craft shops, etc. There is a little park in the center of town that is delightful to sit at, when weather allows. If you decided to go to Cacapon State Park, it's about 10 miles down the road. They have a lodge where you can spend the night. (which I highly recommend). Very casual and laid back. There are t.v. in the room, but they are nothing fancy. Clean of course and very relaxing. If you do stay, ask for a room overlooking the golf course. It has a very nice view. There is also horseback riding (probably just in season) and trails to hike. We go there every other summer and just LOVE IT!
