Bellingham, Washington - need a car?

Is there a good public transportation system in Bellingham? I was planning to come for the summer and don't have a car.

It depends on what part of Bellingham you plan to live in--the city is fairly spread out. Good bus service to/from the Fairhaven and university districts. Also, fairly decent bus service out toward Whatcom Falls Park. You can get by without a car although life would be easier with one.

mjh: Just don't go to any outdoor cafes in Bellinham that allow dogs. A couple of days ago, someone posted that dogs were allowed to lick the plates!

Phony Health Inspector, the cafe you're referring to meets ALL health regulations, so get off your high horse. Their food actually comes from the nearby Colophon Cafe. Most people at the pet-friendly cafe don't let their dogs lick the plate and anyway, there are plenty of PEOPLE with filthy mouths out there. What a wuss!
