I couldn't find the prior thread either...Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike Cafe du Monde, however, having been to NOLA 15-20 times I don't have the need to suffer through the human masses there (Cafe du MOnde) when I can actually enjoy breakfast elsewhere. + I don't drink coffee & the beignets elsewhere are just as good. Cafe Beignet is a little hole in the wall that serves a reasonably priced breakfast, has good beignets & is frequented primarily by locals. It is rarely busy (Sundays being the exception)& it is an enjoyable somewhat sedate place to escape for breakfast away from the tourist hub-bub.

I think there's an outpost of Cafe DuMonde in the Riverwalk. I realize that it wouldn't have the same ambience of the original, but does anyone know how it compares in terms of the taste of the beignets?

Totally agree with you SanParis!
Judy, did you notice that nobody has said which tastes better??? That's because they taste the same!!! We still don't notice a difference!! |
Judy,
It tastes exactly the same. And you can sit by the windows facing the river as we did. |
Yes, the secret is out there is a Cafe DuMonde in the riverwalk. Also there are no crowds, it is air conditioned, you get a great view of the river, and the beignet's are just as good.

I just got my copy of Southern Living yesterday & it mentions Cafe Beignet in it as well as Cafe DuMonde.
There was also a Cafe Du Monde in Lakeside & Esplanade Malls in Metairie/ Kenner. Guess they're still there. I have had beignets in the NO airport & they all taste the same. It's the atmosphere that differs. |
