Funny, CAPH---boldface for the kids? :D

As much as I love to travel, my life goals don't include specific places to go. Rather, I wish for a sense of peace about the future (my children's and the world's), health, and the ability to help others whever I can and wherever I can.

I realize how corny that sounds . . .

cd Aug 7th, 2006 06:46 AM

Before I check out, I'd like to figure out why we're all here to begin with.........

starrsville Aug 7th, 2006 06:49 AM

OWJ -
>...go to the bottom of the Grand Canyon (I've wanted to do that since I was 8 and watched Marcia, Jan and Cindy Brady do it!)<

If you aren't otherwise engaged, join me next fall. Maybe BayouGal will join us and we'll recreate the Brady girls!

tuscanlifeedit Aug 7th, 2006 07:05 AM

cd... I always hoped to be able to figure that out, too. That hope became rather urgent a personal tragedy. I was definetly a searcher, but never seemed to find a satisfying answer, then I read, "My purpose is to become spiritually fit for maximum service to God and others."

It clicked for me. I said to myself, "I can live with that" and have been greatly consoled and strengthed by it for many years now.

I am blessed to have been able to cross that one of my list a long time ago.

In a lighter vein, I want to see and experience these places

Australia
New Zealand
Tahiti
Northern England
More of France than Paris
More of Umbria
Le Marche
More Italian Lakes than Como & Maggiore

Kal Aug 7th, 2006 07:08 AM

Want to be able to open a package of flashlight batteries without swearing or cutting myself into the ER....

Drive cross town without getting runoff the road by someone driving an SUV, drinking a latte while talking on a cell phone....

Get in the FASTEST lane at the grocery store...

Not have my BIL order his foo foo drink when out with us boys....

Be able to channel surf from news program to news program and not have them all on commercial...

Get my neighbors hearing aids fixed so he can hear when his franctically yipping dogs want to come back in the house at night sooner than the usual 30 mins ....

Just order the whole darn bottle vs ordering 4 glasses of wine during dinner at a restaurant.....

See travel pix with people in them....

Pull off a 3 week trip to Italy AND 3 weeks in Kauai w/o filing BK.... #-O

Live for today, rather than for tomorrow.

Tiff Aug 7th, 2006 07:37 AM

Hi sistahlou ~

I will share a little story with you because of your "Witness the northern lights" wish.

When I was a child, we lived in Northern Minnesota. One late night my father came up to my room while I slept and quietly woke me. He led me down to our deck outside, smiled and said, "I wanted you to see this."

There in the sky danced the most wonderful color I have ever seen. It was like magic prancing throughout the sky, like an entire separate world having a celebration. It was in a word, magnificent.

It was a memory that we shared for MANY years and neither of us had seen the lights again. We remembered it well many times until he passed away three and a half years ago.

A couple years ago, my husband and I were remembering this same story. We missed him so, but smiled as I told the story. Of course, I shed a few tears, but it was such a happy memory.
On the evening of that same day, our neighbor called us and excitedly yelled over his cell phone to "come outside". For the second time in my life, there in the sky were the Northern Lights dancing around for us. My husband's mouth dropped, I have never seen him so shocked, it was as if my father was stopping in for a visit. Obviously my neighbor had no idea of the significance of what he had just done. I only thanked him, with tears rolling out of my eyes, for calling us to come outside so we could see this awe inspiring sight.

I do so hope you will be able to get your wish.

And when you do, say hi to my Dad for us, will you?
((L))

p.s. He would have like it that I told you this story, sistahlou, he was a good story teller, I hope I did this one justice.

Kal Aug 7th, 2006 07:43 AM

...actually dress in layers in SF....

Fantastic story Tiff

CAPH52 Aug 7th, 2006 09:48 AM

Beautiful story, Tiff! Thanks for sharing.

sunbum1944 Aug 7th, 2006 10:03 AM

Tiff- that story gave me goose bumps-
bet it was your father checking in.

I grew up on the praires of Canada - we got to the Northern lights many times
but always mesmorizing to watch.

tuscanlifeedit Aug 7th, 2006 10:18 AM

Tiff, thank you.

And oh my, those typos in my post; I apologize. My excuse: sick at home.

bennnie Aug 7th, 2006 11:17 AM

Tiff - you made me cry and now I have to get on a conference call. They'll be wondering why there is a catch in my voice. Lovely story.

Before I go I want to see my daughters as happy adults.

I want to spend lots more time with my husband because I still have lots to learn about him despite nearly 20 years of marriage.

I want to go to Australia, Ireland (again and again), Italy and England (last trip was business and too short).

I want to expand myself so that I would no longer fear going to Asia or Africa - can't honestly say that I would voluntarily go to either place today.

I want to not to be afraid of doing a lot of other stuff too.

cmcfong Aug 7th, 2006 12:07 PM

Oh Tiff, what a precious memory and so sweetly told. Thank you for making my day!

angethereader Aug 7th, 2006 12:50 PM

OOps - I hate when I post too quick.

Stay in a Scottish HIghland castle

Return to Japan -bennie - we went in March and I would go back in a hearbeat. NOT scarry at all, always felt very safe.

Visit the wine country in Australia

Visit New Zealand

And that was a very beautiful story. I have never seen the northern lights, but my 21 year old son was at our lake place (in northern Wisconsin - my family has been going there for 45 years) 2 years ago and HE got to see them. He said it was incredible. He and his friends just sat there for hours and watched. I envied him while at the same time I was glad that he had the experience.
