Beer/wine/liquor sources in Maine

Just curious what the rules are in Maine for purchasing "spirits." Would like to bring a beer or two at the end of a day in my motel room, or take wine or beer on a picnic. Every state is so different, that I'd like to not just bump around learning the rules and where to purchase.

Here's a link with specific information about Maine alcohol laws: http://www.alcohollaws.org/mainealcohollaws.html

For a list briefly describing alcohol laws for each state:

Happy tippling!

Maine is very liberal and they operate massive state stores and if purchased at the state stores there is no sales tax.

Maine got out of the liquor business, you can buy beer at the gas station , the mom and pops ,drug stores walmart and supermarkets.some also carry wine and the harder stuff.A touist coming by car has been seen at the state liqour store on rt 95 in New Hampshire.

xxx30, are you saying there are no longer ABC stores in ME? Actually, I would just look for beer or wine, so I get that part. Thanks.

Maine no longer operates state liquor stores, the so-called Green Fronts of yesteryear. All alcohol sales are now done through licensed outlets, usually supermarkets, conveniences stores, and the like. There are specialty wine and beer shops scattered about. For those driving into Maine from the south, many folks would recommend stopping at the New Hampshire liquor store on I-95 to stock up on hard liquor and wine.

Why not just buy wine at the grocery stores like I do at home?

There can be strict no alcohol rules on some beaches. In Old Orchard they are very strict about public consumption. This does not mean that you can't carefully consume a beverage from a plastic cup!!!
