Been to Sharon Springs,Cooperstown?
 

We have a short time to stay overnight in Sharon Springs NY which looks like a delightfully quaint town and on to Cooperstown. I believe there is a Grandma Moses exhibit at the Farmer's Museum. Any eating or sightseeing tips?

We were in Cooperstown about four years ago. I can not help you with places to eat, but I hope you like baseball because the Baseball Hall of Fame is there and LOTS of shops with everything baseball. I even liked the Hall of fame - and I am not into it like my husband or sons.

When we visited Cooperstown a couple of years ago, we ate at the Doubleday Inn. Very reasonable and surprisingly good.
This is a very small town. The Baseball Hall of Fame and the Farmers Museum are just about all there is to see, although the lake is picturesque.

Cooperstown is the only placw where i saw more men shopping then women!!! the hall of fame is newly renovated so it shold be nice! We ate in town at a fab burger place sorry can't remember the name! Have fun!!

I would concentrate on Cooperstown. I was in Sharon Springs (smaller than Cooperstown) a few months ago and while it was cute, there isn't much there anymore for a "tourist". Someone has purchased several of the old hotels so look for some great resorts in a year or so. There is a small cafe called the Black Cat Cafe and if you can drag a smile out of the young waitstaff (once they tear themselves away from their laptops) you'll probably get a prize. Good coffee & desserts though, can't comment on lunch because after we were given a menu and made a selection the waiter told us that he was the only person there and he doesn't cook so lunch was over. There is a gift shop next door, but we didn't have time to go in. A hotel was across the street from the cafe that also served food where you could get something more substantial, it looked nice.

The American Hotel in Sharon Springs has delicious New American food in a lovely atmosphere. One of the owners took us on a tour of some of their rooms, and they were very nice, but they are renovating the building bit by bit, so I think they only have about nine or ten finished. Reserve early.

Cooperstown is an odd combination of baseball fanatics and opera fans visiting the nearby Glimmerglass opera.
Be sure to see the Fenimore Cooper Museum. In addition to the farm buildings, it has NY art, special exhibits, and perhaps the finest collection -- or at least the most beautifully displayed collection -- of American Indian art that I have ever seen. The man who built and donated the collection is a famous art dealer, and this is art, not anthropology.

The Blue Mingo Grill (north of town) has fantastic food and lakeside seating. Bring the insect repellent. I can also recommend the Hoffman Lane Bistro in town, with excellent local wines and beers. Dr Konstantin Frank's wines are unlike anything you expect of NY state wine. I can also strongly recommend the Horned Dorset Inn in Leonardsville for dinner: a gourmet restaurant in a most unlikely setting.

Notice: nothing about baseball. My wife and I are opera fans!

Ditto the American Hotel for dinner! A few weeks ago we had delicious apps, a delightful meal and a perfect pineapple martini. The hosts are charming. Although I live near Cooperstown, It was our first time visiting Sharon Springs.

If you visit the Glimmerglass Opera, and enjoy wildlife, there is a bog directly to the right . The trailhead is marked, with info about the very short walk along a boardwalk.

You also might want to visit Ommagang Brewery while you're there. It's a Belgian style brewery and they have tours and tastings.

yes have been many times! food choices in cooperstown very poor in general -- try nearby cherry valley for an unbelievable dinner at Alex & Ika: www.alexandika.com, or sharon springs -- incredible lunches and fabulous desserts at the Black Cat (blackcat-ny.com) and dinner or drinks at the American Hotel.
