Bed and Breakfast in Sedona
Has anyone ever stayed at the Moestly Wood Bed and Breakfast in Sedona, Arizona? We are trying to decide between that and the Briar Patch Inn. My husband and I are traveling to Sedona with our 20 month old son for 2 days in August. The Briar Patch Inn looks wonderful, but it is almost double the price. The Moestly Wood doesn't show photos of anything but the rooms which makes us hesitant. There is only one report on it at tripadvisor. Please let me know if you have experience there. Thanks!

Hello Khill,
Not knowing a thing about Moestly Wood B&B at all, but have stayed at the Briar Patch Inn. It was last December, over Christmas. It was a most delightful place to be to celebrate the holiday, although at that time the temps were in the 80s. We were expecting cold weather....NOT. Even so the fireplaces were burning constantly as there is a groundskeeper who supplies ea cabin w/plenty of wood. He sets it all up in cabin and all one has to do is light a match. (Know in summer you won't need this at all, but just wanted to mention.) Each cabin has its own separate charm. Let me remind you... the cabins are very old and rustic not new and updated. If you are looking for more up-to-date upscale, then this is not for you. We rented a cabin w/full kitchen, cooked our Christmas dinner, which was cozy for two. There are no phones or TVs in the cabins making one's stay more relaxed, quiet and serene. :-) The grounds are beautiful located right alongside the oak creek where one can sit and watch the babbling waters, read a good book, etc. There are goats and sheep that roam the grassy area for visual interest besides keeping the grass down to size. The owner lives on the premises in a large beautiful home right beside the creek. It is absolutely lovely. The staff is very friendly always keeping the clientele happy. A breakfast is served ea morn right next to the office, which is included w/your stay. The Briar Patch is located north of the town/shops about a few miles and south of Slide Rock. There is a steep driveway, right side of road, from the 2-lane hwy that will lead you right to the Briar Patch. Hope this helps. Regards, Francie |
I found a picture of the outside:
http://wcities.com/en/record/23,304891/588/record.html I have not stayed there. I am very familiar w/the Sedona area (have spent months there over the last 10 yrs) and the location, as we have driven all over that area of the loop of Red Rock Rd. (looking at property) and have rented houses in that area of West Sedona. You will be in a neighborhood of mostly small and older houses which have a good amt. of land (most of them), not a newer subdivision. You will be somewhat removed (a few miles) from the main part of Sedona, although Sedona is not that big and you can drive places easily from where you'll be (the further up the road this place is, the further and bupier the ride will be). You may have views of Cathedral rock, depending on the orientation of the house, and will be close to Red Rock Crossing, a lovely day use area where those classic pictures are taken of Oak Creek with Cathedral Rock in the background (if it is open then- see below). You will be close driving distance to Red ROck State Park and hiking in West Sedona. It is just a bit more remote out there than in other areas of Sedona. I assume you just want to stay at a B&B for some reason, because there are nice hotels for the same rate in the same area of West Sedona (but more centrally located than the neighborhood you'll be in) that have a pool, like the Hampton Inn, which gets great reviews on tripadvisor and here. I would think that a pool would be a big plus in Sept. w/a 20 month old. Another B&B to consider which is less expensive and has great reviews on here and tripadvisor is Grace's Secret Garden. Lovely grounds and gardens, lovely house inside, and the hostess, Grace, gets really good reviews. It is in the Village of Oak Creek, a few miles before you get to Sedona proper off of hwy 179. http://www.gracessecretgarden.com/ro...s.html#redrock Just in case you are not aware, there was a big fire in north Sedona and Oak creek canyon in the last few wks. The hiking trails and day use areas around Sedona are all closed now, due to fire hazard, and according to the officials they won't open til the fire hazard goes down (they need rain). Have a nice time there. It is my favorite place in the USA. |
Your son might enjoy the horses at Grace's also.
Moestly's looks kind of drab compared to Grace's, don't you think? Her breakfast looks very good also. The reviews I've read say she packs lunches for people when they are going out for the day also... Please post back on where you decide to stay. I am going in Sept. and have reservations at the Hampton Inn, but am considering other options. |
Oh, one more thing- I see on Grace's website that she has deals for August- stay one night get 2nd night half off, or stay two nights get 3rd night free!
