Beaver Creek--day trip during winter

We're staying at Beaver Creek for one week at Christmas. We are renting a car. Are there any day trips you can recommend if we want to take a day off from skiing. Are there any parks nearby that might be worth seeing in the winter.

Thank you.

You could go to Aspen and see the Glenwood Canyon portion of I70 along the way. And the hot springs in Glenwood. The high passes will be closed I imagine.

Yes, the best trip would be to the huge Glenwood hot springs pool, via the beautiful canyon highway. If the weather is good, you could go to Leadville and see the mining museum, etc. No parks nearby, just National Forest.

I third the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool. Sitting in the hot pool with the snow drifting down--Magic! They also have massage to sooth those post- skiing sore muscles. Here's a link. http://www.hotspringspool.com/

Be careful though...I believe that there is only one road in and out of Glenwood Springs and if you are there and a storm hits...you might just get stuck there. Not 100% sure on this, perhaps others can verify.

Hope this helps...

I am sure you will go to Vail, another one for the Hot Springs pool at Glenwood Springs. You can bring a cooler, chairs, get a massage. Great day. I would not worry to much about the roads, the drive is pretty much in high desert and they get little snow as compared to going east.

I don't think I would have ever characterized the drive from Vail to Aspen as "high desert". But the road IS I70 and they do a good job of clearing it if it snows. And I guess from the point of view of passes (like Vail Pass/Eisenhower tunnel), that is true.

Vail Local here: I agree with previous posts. Goenwood is a wonderful day trip. They also have Caverns which are a treat.
