Beaumont TX Road Construction
Any advice for route around road construction on I10 West near Beaumont / Orange? Or internet site that might recommend alternative route? We're driving in that direction now from Lafayette LA and husband said he heard the construction delays are terrible at night.

I've always used TX62/73/87 instead of I-10 between Winnie and Orange.
From Lafayette to Houston, get off at Exit 873. Make a left onto TX62/73 at lights. Go straigh for about 6 miles (one light in middle) to end of road. Bear right onto TX73/87. You'll pass through Bridge City with 3 traffic lights. It's a wide 3-lane each way there, but speed limit is only 45mph. Don't speed. After that it's almost all freeway, through Port Arthur, then one ramp and I believe one traffic light on TX73. Just follow the "Houston" signs. TX73 rejoins I-10 in Winnie, bypassing all the construction as well as Beaumont. Traffic is much much lighter than I-10, and distance is about 3-4 miles longer. Even if there's no construction, I'd still go this way because of light traffic. Between Port Arthur and Winnie, one can really relax for about 25 miles. |
Good advice, rkkwan. I thought I was the only one who took that route. ;)

Statia - So, you must be in the only other vehicle I see on TX73... :D

Yep, I'm that other car you see. I take that route to my grandmother's house in Pt. Arthur. :D I always knew as a kid that we were FINALLY getting closer once we took that TX73 cut off at Winnie.
