Beaufort, S.C.

My wife and I will down in South Carolina in a few months spending some time in Charleston, Savannah & Beaufort, S.C. Any thoughts and opinions on The Rhett House Inn or The Beaufort Inn would be appreciated. Any other suggestions would be helpful...thanks.

The Beaufort Inn is gorgeous and they have a great restaurant! I love Beaufort. I saw Pat Conroy hanging out at the waterfront park while I was there.

I dont know how long you'll be there, but I like all 3. Beaufort is actually closer to Savannah than Charleston. Beaufort looks like a little miniature Charleston and The Rhett House is probably its most famous inn. The Beafort Inn is very nice, Two Suns is nice much more laid back than Rhett House. Emilys is a great restaurant on Port Republic st. The John Mark Verdier house museum on Bay st is nice and the Spirit of Old Beaufort walking tours is right behind it. Charlestons Provost dungeon, Edmonston Allston house, Calhoun Mansion, Nathanial Russel house, and Aiken Rhett mansion just to name a few are all nice to visit. I enjoyed the boat ride out to Ft Sumter which leaves from the SC Aquarium. Poogans Porch is a great restaurant as is Ansons and Carolinas. Its hard to find a bad place to eat in Charleston.
Savannah is laid out much differently from Charleston with its squares which are really wonderful to walk around in.
The Ships of the Sea museum housed in the Scarborough mansion is nice, as are the Owens Thomas house, Green Meldrim house, and Julliette Gordon Low house.
The Armstrong Mansion is beautiful but sadly thats now a law firm. Lady and Sons is a popular place in Savannah to eat along with its next door neighbor Savannah Bistro. Much more formal is Elizabeths on 37th and the Olde Pink Houe. I enjoyed dinner at 1790. I dont know if its of interest but all of these towns have Ghost tours in the evening. Beaufort has one, Charleston has about half a dozen and Savannah has about a dozen. I think they're interesting, but let me warn you most of them are NOT short! I swear on a Savannah tour I walked ten miles if I took a step!

We stayed at the Rhett House a few years ago, it was delightful, I would highly recommend it. In Savannah we've stayed at the Magnolia Inn which is equally as charming. Did the ghost tour in Savannah, lots of fun. Have a wonderful trip!
