Beartooth & Chief Joseph Scenic Byways

I have to make choice on which route to take on our way to NE entrance of Yellowstone.
1. Out of Cody WY take Chief Joseph Hwy to 212 (Beartooth Hwy) OR
2. Take the entire Beartooth hwy out of Red Lodge MT.
It's the same mileage from where I'm coming, but I want to see the best of what that area has to offer SO....
Which is better, the enitre Beartooth or the Chief Joseph and part of the Beartooth?
Thanks!!!

I had the same problem last june,I didnt want to miss anything either.
We decided to take the chief Joseph hiway to 212 then on to Redlodge.
After a pic nic lunch we backtracked.
I think the Beartooth is the best, but im glad we took the time to see it both ways.We prety well made a day out of it and stoped a lot to let the kids enjoy the snow that was abuntant(mid june).Hope this helps!

as said before,Beartooth is awesome. We dd it last year and it was one on the top highlights of the trip(ohio to yellowstone). My son nailed me with a snowball in july. Getting to the top and seeing a double rainbow was cool.It was hard keeping the car on the road with the views.

I'm partial to the Beartooth highway.

The Beartooth is more scenic. But, if you know some geology and some history of the Nez Perce, the Chief Joseph highway is very interesting.
We drove Cody from Old Faithful, took the Chief Joseph, drove back into Yellowstone to see if we could spot a wolf along the Lamar Valley (fruitless effort),thene retraced out steps over the Bearthooth and enjoyed every minute of it. We arrived in Red Lodge in time for the afternoon rain shower. It was a full day, but darn rewarding and scenic.

The Beartooth is not particularly scenic from Chief Joseph to the NE entrance, and you don't have to go all the way to Red Lodge. You will notice as you are going east that you get out of the scenery. I'd just turn around and head back.

To me, it's not worth driving all the way to Red Lodge.

Are you staying in the park? Be advised that the road north of Canyon will be closed. If you are staying on that side, it would be better to come in the east entrance.
