Bear Watching SouthEast Alaska

Has anyone BearWatched after visiting the Inside Passage/Glacier Bay? I have been told there are other options beside going up to Anchorage/Homer.

Any experiences?

Try to google <Anan Observatory> for answers to your questions. To start here is one link

Thanks Way_North. Have you experienced Anan?

Anyone else?

I have bear watched Inside Passage, at Neets Bay and Anan. Both great, and fly ins from Ketchikan.

There is also Pack Creek fly in out of Juneau, if you want brown bears- the above sites are blacks- sometimes browns at Anan.

The only area that has decent nonflying bear watches is Hoonah.

Search any town for their local dump - thats where the bears hang out.

When salmon are running in June, July and August, there are lots of opportunities to see bear feeding on rotting salmon.

If there is an air taxi that flies in to remote areas and specializes in those types of trip, that is the best way.

Bear watching is a pretty iffy activity unless the bears are habituated to an area for feeding.

Best bear viewing is at the zoo.

I kinda prefer Katmai and Denali :)
