Bear hunting. Part II

In March this year I posted this message

Message: My Dad wants to go bear hunting this fall. Anyone did this on a trip to Alaska? Where? How much? When is the best time? Thank you for your input

For some reason it looks as the post was closed (?). Too bad because it had many passionate responses.

Conclusion:

I printed out all your responses and gave them to my father. He not only decided NOT go to Alaska hunting but persuaded two of his friends to do the same. Nonetheless, he was planning to go and enjoy Alaska this September. He died in August and never had a chance to visit this wonderful state.
I agree with many of you about no hunting. Thank you for helping my father to see the light.

Please accept my condolences and I am especially sorry your father never got to Alaska. I'll never forget overhearing a visitor to the Pratt Museum in Homer say he had intended to move to Alaska in the 60s but settled elsewhere. He wondered what his life would have been like. We kept running into people who said they had come on vacation and never went home. Alaska still captures peoples' hearts and fancies and I'm not sure other places do to that extent.

nkd - my condolensces on your loss. I, too, am glad he decided against hunting, but am sorry that he passed before being able to see such a beautiful place.

Thank you both. In memory of my father our whole family decided to have a family reunion in Alaska in September 2005. At this point we don't know where but Homer looks like a nice place and maybe from there we all could go bear watching NOT hunting.
