Beacon Hotel?

We are looking for something moderately priced for a weekend-- this hotel runs $115/night and we were wondering if anyone can comment on the caliber. Thanks!

My sister and her friends have stayed at the Beacon twice. They love it because the rooms are large; the location perfect and the place is clean. Have a good trip.

Stayed at the Beacon about a year and a half ago and loved it, for all the reasons mentioned above. Great place.

Sounds like a great price for a wonderful location, particularly on a weekend. Lots of shops & restaurants in the area (on Columbus Ave.) For more reviews check tripadvisor.com and also the Rants & Raves section on Hotels here at Fodors.

PS Keep in mind there's a 13.5% tax on hotel rooms which is probably not included in this price. You can probably find something cheaper (depending on the weekend) if you're willing to bid on Priceline. Also, this area is not midtown where many tourists prefer to stay for proximity to theaters, dept stores etc, but there's good transportation. The only normal tourist sights in the immediate area are Lincoln Center & the Museum of Natural History. I'm not trying to talk you out of the Beacon-just pointing out pros & cons. For a relaxing weekend in NY with the feel of a real neighborhood it's a great choice.
