Beacon Hill Restaurants
We'll be in Boston the middle of this month for a couple of nights and have made reservations at the Beacon Hill Hotel and Bistro. Does anyone have comments on the hotel restaurant? Any other good dinner recommendations for Beacon Hill?

Have never dined at Beacon Hill Bistro, but have a few suggestions. The Hungry I, 75 Chestnut and Ristorante Toscano are all very good, expensive restaurants. Lala Rokh is one of our favorites. Great Persian food. Also, The King and I has great Thai food.
|
Or for more casual dining you can hit Todd English's Figs on Charles St. Good pizza and pasta.

Another vote for the Hungry I, and 9 Park is also very good.

You've received some great suggestions.
Lala Rokh is a standout, and the atmosphere is lovely. It's much more a combination of cuisines than strictly Persian. The Federalist is a short walk away, at XV Beacon Hotel. They have a lovely bar area and also serve a great breakfast. I hope you'll enjoy Boston ! Marion |
Thanks so much for all the tips. We've been to Boston once before--just last year--and I loved it, so I'm really looking forward to our short return visit. Will I need advance reservations at any of these places for an early (6:30) dinner on a Monday or Tuesday night?

Last time I went to Tod English on beacon hill the pizza maker didn't wash his hands - kept scratching his head/ neck - wiping his sweaty brow / neck - and then he and the server both used their hands to put the toppings on the pizza (calamari) prior to bringing it to our table - yuck ! I watched them make another order and same thing again, then on another order the server used her hands to remove some toppings around on this other pasta ? type entree , wasn't sure what it was but she used her hands ! then as i watched her stand there she didn't wash them - she wiped down tables too !! yuck !! I have left complaints with the main office & they don't respond ! I guess this happens in all kitchens but you don't get to see it in action like you do here at Tod English where the prep. area is right beside you in open view !!

I've eaten at Beacon Hill Bistro several times- always good. The Hungry I is more formal and probably the most romantic atmosphere in Boston (in my opinion, having lived in Beacon Hill for 4 years). It's in a small townhouse on Charles Street, and very intimate. The Bistro is really a bistro atmosphere- lively, can be loud, but in a nice, social way. Good classic French bistro food, like the steak and pomme frites. I also love the bar at 75 Chestnut (but not really the restaurant), and The King and I (super casual, nothing special for atmosphere, but great thai food). But really my favorite casual dinner was Figs- the chicken sausage pizza with carmelized onions was to die for. All of these restaurants (except 75 Chestnut) are on Charles Street.
