Beaches within 1 day Wash. DC

Will be doing the Washington, DC thing with 2 teenagers this summer and then want to spend a few days at a beach to cool off after 90+ heat and humidity. Perhaps something in Maryland or Virginia. Looking for clean, big beach with waves and even some honky-tonk stuff near by to amuse the kids. Also, perhaps a suite hotel or condo type thing to rent where we are not obligated to take a whole week.

Annapolis Md. is a beautiful any time of the year. The town is quaint, great resturants. If you don't mind driving a bit, Ocean City Maryland is the place with great beaches, clean, with a Honkey Tonk flavor on the boardwalk.

Teenagers huh? The place to be is
Fagers Island. Fun, fun, fun. There are plenty of hotels to stay at up and down the strip. Island Harbor Condo's offer daily or weekely rentals. This would be a vacation that the teens will remember forever. If you should prefer a hotel, may I suggest the Ocean Club.

Have fun -
Rehobeth Beach and Dewey Beach (right next to each other) in Delaware are smaller and less crowded that OC, but have a lot of teen appeal (especially the boardwalk at Rehobeth.

Just south of Dewey is a state park with changing/shower facilities and lifeguards. Great for a day-trip.

How about Virginia Beach? We made the drive easily in 1 day and the kids loved it. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Sunspree--not fancy but they had a great pool and beach area. We all got a kick out of downtown VB at night--lots of street corner performers, funky souvenir-ish shops and a carnival on the beach. It was tacky, memorable and tons of fun! What more could a family want?

Myrtle Beach I believe is only about 8 hours or so and a much better beach than Ocean City or Virginia Beach. IMO, definatly worth the extra driving time. North Myrtle Beach is calm and relaxing, but Myrtle Beach has arcades and stuff like that.
