Beaches near D.C.?

What really nice beaches would be convenient from D.C.? Either by ground or air. But fairly close.

Trying to split vacation time between the two.

Many thanks!

When? Nice beaches are a lot closer in warm weather, April or later.

How long do you have in toto, for both places, including travel time?

Barbados has great beaches, but it takes forever to get there. Ditto having to change on the way, Sint Maarten for Anguilla, for example. Later in the year, you get on the plane and you get off in Miami or whatever.

The downside of "later" is hot weather in DC. You don't want to go later than mid-June.

So there is a sweet spot. If you tell me when and how long, I can recommend where.

Depends on YOUR definition of "nice" but assuming you mean ocean beaches the closest, mileage-wise would be in Rehoboth, DE and Ocean City, MD, which are about 130 miles away from Washington.

You can FLY N/S from Washington Reagan airport to Nassau as well as San Juan.

Rehoboth is my favorite if you're driving.

Lewes, Rehoboth, Dewey and Bethany beach are sweet and very laid back. I grew up there during the summer and it really is nice even in winter months. Great places to eat and the boardwalk is so nice. Historical and plenty of tax free shopping.

Cape May NJ and Virginia Beach are a bit farther driving than Rehoboth, Dewey etc.

But you can easily fly nonstop to Ft Lauderdale in about 2:45 hrs and to Ft Myers FL in 2:30, or Tampa.
