The water of Lake Michigan gets warmer than 85-90 degrees.

Lake Michigan is beautiful but the water is COLD! It will NEVER be 85-90. I can't speak for the Pacific but the Atlantic is way warmer than Lake Michigan. Just ask my daughter who was blue from three minutes!

As someone who lives in Southern California near San Diego, my advise....go to Hawaii :o)

We are forgoing our annual to Charleston...weep, sniff. Thinking about buying a place and going to check out Holden. Not sure if it will be any match to our beloved city but way less $$$.

What you do is buy in Holden because real estate values will eventually catch up to Charleston. Then you can switch cities!

What kind of Carmel/ Monterey info are you looking for? If lodging, let me know your price range and style (B&B, motel small inn, etc.). My daughter was marrried there last summer so I'm pretty familiar.

Actually, plans have changed and we're going to be heading to the North Fork of Long Island to the wineries and beaches. The water will be cold but it's very convenient in terms of location. Thank you all for your help!
