Beach resorts on the Gulf Coast
Hi,
After New Orleans, we are looking for a nice beach resort to relax at for a few days before driving north back home. We know that Biloxi has two (the Hard Rock and the Beau Rivage) but they do not have a beach. Would you know of any 4 or 5 star resorts with a beautiful beach that we can drive to without having to go to Southern Florida? Maybe in Alabama, Louisianna, Mississippi or the Florida Panhandle? Thanks again. Andrea |
Look at resorts in the Destin area of the Florida Panhandle -0 plenty to choose from and some of the best beaches in the state.
|
I second that, Pensacola, Appalachicola (sp), lots to choose from.

Hi Andrea,
Look at this website for travel tips in Florida. There is a lot to discover. Vacation rentals are my favorite and cost effective way to vacation! www.floridasummers.com |
The Sandestin Resort is the largest that I know of, and it has many different kinds of lodgings, including both hotel rooms and condos. If you aren't interested in Destin, Panama City, Fort Walton Beach and Pensacola Beach are other possibilities, but Apalachicola is inland and not on the beach.
Alabama has superior beaches, but it's more of a rental destination, though there are several resorts in Gulf Shores. We don't really cover Alabama on our site, so I can't make any personal recommendations. Neither Louisiana nor Mississippi has good beaches, so I'd really focus a search on the Panhandle region of Florida and in Gulf Shores, AL. |
Doug, how can you say that Alabama has superior beaches? Do you mean superior to Florida beaches? Please clarify. The sand is the same from Gulf Shores to Panama City. However, because of it's proximity to Mobile Bay, the Gulf is always less clear in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. The prettiest, most clear water is usually Destin.
I am 55 years old and have lived and /or vacationed on the Gulf Coast of Florida and Alabama my entire life. |

Alabama has superior beaches? Better than the Florida Panhandle? Doug, please explain that comment.
