Does anyone know of a way to eat dinner on the beach other than a luau? Do any restaurants offer outside dining on the beach? If so, which ones are good?

You may be interested in the review of the Cabanas Seaside Grill in the present edition of Honolulu Weekly. Also, look up other reviews on the 'net.

Another approach is the Hau Tree Lani.

Both of these are on Oahu.

Or, Shore Bird Beach Broiler. Does it have to be dinner? My cousin & I had cocktails & pupus poolside at the Sheraton Waikiki last week. It was a fabulous way to enjoy the sunset. You can enjoy this at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider, as well.

The Hyatt had a beachside cabana where they served a private meal in the Cabana. Looked very romantic with all the candles.

For something less formal you can always go to the Hula Grill at Whalers Village and sit in the sand bar area outside. It's in the sand.

Many of the larger hotels are now offering private beach dining but it's really pricey.

How about Pacific O? We ate there four years ago and it was fantastic and we were right on the beach. We ate early so we could see the sunset and it was very romantic. It's in Lahaina. Great fish.

What about Sarento's on the Beach in the South Maui/Wailea area? Gets excellent reviews! I haven't been there yet but it's definitely on my list!

Sarento's at the Four Seasons Maui overlooks Wailea Beach. It is a magical place because you sit outside (no bugs!) under the stars and moon (if you plan it right), can see and hear the ocean, and eat fabulous Italian food. Nothing like it. Without wine, expect to pay about $50 per person.

You're right about Sarrento's....it's in Kihei. WayneY may be referring to Ferraro's at the 4S.

Having eaten at both last Feb., they're both very, very good.

Perhaps above poster is referring to Ferraro's at the 4S.

I prefer the nearby Humuhumu restaurant in the Grand Wailea Resort, though the polynesian style huts technically sit atop a fish pond, the location is inspiring with an endless water effect from the pools to the ocean, arrive before ((#))sunset. :S-

WHERE in Maui are you talking about?
Maui is a big island!
Sarentos, Wailea is great, so is Pacific'O in Lahaina and I'os next door.
Leilani at Whalers Village Kaanapali is very casual, but good and beach side.
Ask in the area you are staying and eat locally if you drink as the roads can be treacherous after dark and you want to be CLOSE to your hotel.

Oops, I meant Ferraros (NOT Sarento's). Ferraros is located at the 4 Seasons and can be considered beachside. Sarento's is next door at the Kealani and is not beachside.

Don't aim to beat a dead horse but Sarento's is not in the Fairmont Kea Lani, and does indeed offer some beachfront tables, perhaps you are thinking of Nick's Fishmarket in the Fairmont:?
