Beach Blanket Babylon Questions

We will be traveling to San Francisco in late April, staying at the Hyatt Regency Embarcadero. We would like to see BBB while visiting. How far in advance do we need to get tickets? What is the best area of the theatre to sit in? Is a taxi going to be the best means of transportation to get there from our hotel?

Check their website(address unknown to me but just type Beach Blanket Babylon on your search engine).I'd say get tickets now. It is non-reserved seats I think. Taxi is the best way to get from your hotel. Dine in North Beach that evening for an extra treat. Check out Moose's.

There are no reserved seats, but a couple of price options for better areas of the theatre. There is one category of VIP seating which is the front of the small balcony which really is the best if you want to splurge. I've never done it, but there are also seats at the sides of the balcony, front row, but you're sort of looking sideways. Frankly I think those would be great seats. The main floor is all flat, and very crowded with everyone at tiny little cabaret tables. It is very easy to get behind someone and not have a good view. People start lining up outside the theatre about an hour before the doors open -- and it is necessary if you want to get seated first to be up front or anywhere other than the very back. The theatre is not large.
Certainly a taxi is easiest, but any bus that goes to the center of North Beach will deliver you just a block or so from the theatre.
Have you looked at their website? I'm sure a lot more information is there including how far ahead you can book. The sooner the better, because some shows really do sell out a month or more ahead.
I love going before dinner -- you order drinks at the table. And I agree with Pam -- I've seen the show about four or five times now, and think I've done dinner afterwards at Moose's all but one time! But there are plenty of eating options in the neighborhood.

Planning to go in April. What is the mode of dress? Suit? Sportcoat?

SFImporter Jan 29th, 2003 08:23 AM

Suits are rarely seen in San Francisco outside of the financial district. A sport coat will be more than adequate.

Thanks SF
Open collar under that sportcoat or tie? Or can you just wear dress slacks with open collar shirt?

All you BBB fans, have any of you been to Teatro Zinzanni? It's more expensive but includes dinner and is about 4 hours of entertainment. It's fabulous and I can't recommend it highly enough.

www.teatrozinzanni.com

CD, truly - open collar shirt and slacks are fine. I don't own a suit and haven't worn my last sport coat in awhile. I prefer a dressy leather jacket.

I think I've worn a sport coat and open shirt there as we were heading to Moose's, but the sport coat always comes off. It is very warm there as you are packed in. Unless you are dressing more for dinner, you will not feel the least bit out of place in jeans or khakis and polo shirt or sport shirt! It is very casual.

I took Patrick's advice and made reservations over a month in advance for the show. Was not able to get a reserved seat, as they go months in advance. Did get reserved front cabaret. Must still stand in line. Would someone please tell me how long the show last, so that I can make dinner reservations following the early show. Thank you for help.

BBB tickets half-price today on "theatrebayarea". Never seen them 1/2 price on weekends.
