Beach Blanket Babylon
I have seen this alot on here but I am not quite sure what it is all about and the info on website doesn't help too much. What's it all about?
If you have gone, can you tell me which seats you recommend? Deb |
Debit - my husband and I saw Beach Blanket Babylon with his Company function in San Francisco - it was fantastic - music was superb - we did not have seats - we were all seated around tables - don't know if you were looking at the San Francisco area or if it is in New York on Broadway - regardless - don't miss it - I liked it almost as much as Cats.

We just went for the first time in September (San Francisco). I'll try to explain our experience since I didn't really know what we were in for even though others who had been recommended it and tried to describe it to us.
I called the number on the web site for reserved seats -- he assured me that the tickets would be at the ticket office for us that night -- and they were. I had to claim them with a picture id since they were in my name. The first floor was where the tables were -- and they were first come, first seated. We sat in the balcony. There were a few rows of bleacher type seats facing the stage (I assume they were also first come, first seated). There were dining room type chairs in a single file line along each side of the stage (I think these are reserved also). We sat in the most expensive seats which were reserved, regular theater type seats, a single row in front of the bleacher seats, facing the stage. Although we had a ticket for seats in this row, they were also first come, first seated for this row. I really don't think it matters where you sit as far as enjoying or seeing the show. It is a very small place -- we just didn't want to wait in line before the show. I thought it was worth the extra to sit where we did. They serve drinks before the show if you want them (didn't notice if they did during the show, but assume they probably did). There is no intermission. It was a really fun show and we were impressed with the talent. Costumes are great also. It is very fast moving. They do different musical numbers to songs you have heard with equal opportunity bashing to everyone from political figures to rock stars. It follows loosely a story where Snow White is looking for her true love. I know both liberals and very right wing conservatives who have gone and enjoyed it, so it has a very broad appeal. |
topping, cause I am still thinking about going for this years trip to San Francisco.
Any recent visits, anyone? Where did you sit? I am thinking about the cheapest seats.... |
It is a very campy show that has been going for decades. We prefer to sit in the cabaret chairs on the main floor rather than in the more expensive balcony seats.

Deb: We had heard only RAVES of this show before our trip to SF. Somehow, I screwed up in my trip planning, and although I thought I had a secured reservation, I evidently didn't hit enough "save" buttons on the internet. We hiked up a hill as high as Everest to get to the theater. Aforementioned booboo caused us to sit apart during the show.
I thought it was humerous, but not mind boggling. DH sat down ringside, I was up in the balcony. Surely get the cheap seat, the visual effects are the same. Anxious to see what you decide. |
We were in our very early 30s when we saw BBB for the first couple of times & thought it was very entertaining. That was almost 30 years ago. Living in the San Francisco area, we see "snippets" of the show on TV from time-to-time Now, I'm not sure I would enjoy it that much. Perhaps my preferences in humor have changed - I like slapstick & puns less than I did 30 years ago. We saw Teatro Zinzanni about 5 years ago, and though it was the best live entertainment we've seen in quite some time. Different type of humor than BBB - more sophisticated, clever & original. Plus there is "serious" singing, and European style circus acts. You get dinner too - which was better than I expected. We liked the circus acts so much that we saw Cirque de Soleil around Christmas time that same year - but didn't think the acts were nearly as good as Teatro Zinzanni.

We've been to Teatro in Seattle. It was great!

Went to BBB last summer. I am 41yrs & my travel companion was my 21 yr old niece & we both LOVED it! Costumes are wonderful, show is very funny & there really isn't a bad seat. We sat in the balcony & seats were great. Definitly a must do in SF!

The seats down on the floor are just wooden dining chairs. If I ever go again, I would pop for the balcony seats and be comfortable.
It was ceretainly entertaining and the whole place was laughing but I expected to see more hats. The main gal was a fantastic singer. |
<<<The main gal was a fantastic singer>>>
You're probably referring to the well-known (around here) Val Diamond, who has retired from the show. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/...entry_id=48754 |
I found 1/2 price rear cabaret section. I hope that we will be able to see and that my back won't be broken by the end of the show.
Anyone sit back there? |
The theater is not bit and no matter where you sit in the cabaret section, you will have a good view of the show--the stage is near and it is elevated sufficiently.
|
Alrighty then - we are all set! Can't wait for our trip, could do with out the forecasted week of rain, but oh well.
|
It is clear outside our window now - but still forecast for major storms mid-week. Do you always bring the storms with you??

Apparently, we do. LOL; well not really laughing....
|
Finally saw BBB last night! We got 1/2 price tickets at goldstar.com for rear bistro
We got there just before showtime, so we were in the last row. But it was ok, because we were able to hear and SEE everything [both of which were important] We thoroghly enjoyed the show. It constantly updates its' material to included current events, this came from a good source, Fodors very own Abranz who joined us for dinner and the show. She's seen it several times and said it evolves all the time, keeping the main theme intact. I would absolutely suggest a night at this fun show. Go on, you're on vacation - laugh and relax! |
Thank for the report, DebitNM. I'm glad you had a good time.
