beach at Hyatt in Maui?
 

Hi, everyone--

My husband and I are planning a trip to Maui. We'd like to stay at the Hyatt, but it sounds like the beach there isn't great. We're also considering the Westin or Sheraton, as the beach at those hotels sounds better. But neither of them sounds as nice as the Hyatt. For those of you who have stayed at the Hyatt, did you find the beach, or lack thereof, a problem? And for those of you who've stayed at the Westin or Sheraton, were those hotels nice, or were they a bit rundown?

Westin is not run down, and the beach is nice. And it's midway between Hyatt and Sheraton along the kaanapali shoreline. Westin does have many families, so lots of kids, if that bothers you.

All of the hotels on the Kaanapali strip share a common beach. So, stay at the Hyatt and simply walk along Kaanapali Beach until your find your favorite spot! The beach is wide open and you can walk on the sand or along the paved ocean walkway to access any part of it. No reason not to stay at the Hyatt because the beach immediately in front of it is not the best portion of Kaanapali Beach. The pools at the Hyatt are, however, truly special. We enjoy the Hyatt and will be returning for our 5th stay in November.

If the beach is important to you, I'd go to Wailea. In Kanapaali, all the hotels sort of share a beach, and it's very crowded and full of kids. I don't remember the Hyatt, but the Westin seemed to have very small rooms, a very crowded pool and beach, and WAY too many kids running around. It did not seem relaxing to me at all.

We were at the Hyatt several years ago and the place is fantastic! If the beach is the most important thing to you, I'm with checking out Wailea. But if being closer to all the other action means more, then Kaanapali might be the answer. We're staying at the Marriott this time because of an exchange, but plan to have a meal or two at the Hyatt. We loved the Swan Court.

Even though the beach is very important to us, the hotel itself and the activity around it are equally important, so the Hyatt sounds like a good combo of all these things. As ForkinMouth suggested, we can just walk along the beach til we find a spot that suits us. By the way, I've been reading the posts about the recent drownings; how's the beach in the Hyatt area; is it pretty calm? Thanks again!
