Beach at Grand Wailea
We are thinking about staying at the Grand Wailea, Maui, in July. I heard the beach was beautiful. I also heard that it costs $30.00 a day for a cabana rental. Can someone tell me if this is correct and what the cabana is. Do I have to pay for chair or umbrella rentals also. I thought that these items were usually complimentary from the hotel. Thanks - Marie

Go to

http://www.grandwailea.com/water/hibiscus.html

The tents you see around the pool are cabanas. Although I have not rented a cabana there, cabanas elsewhere included more than just the "tent", such as ice bucket refills.

we stayed at the grand about 1 yr ago. the cabanas were $75/day then. there was no charge for the chairs. the cabanas are nice, but not $75 nice. there are shaded areas, i would just get a chaise and find a nice shady spot.

We stayed at a condo next door to the Wailea and walked the beaches at sunset. Ulua Beach is in front of this resort and is highly rated for both snorkeling and swimming.
There are huge ironwood trees along the beach under which you can lay. I would stop at the grocery store in Kihei, (closeby) and pick up those inexpensive, straw mats for about two dollars. Everyone uses them as they shed the sand very nicely!

Plenty of shade so you won't necessarily need $75 cabanas.

I actually just arrived back from Wailea. I'm pretty sure that the GW is located on Wailea beach which it shares with The Four Seasons. I've seen the beach but I haven't been in the water. It's a good size crescent-shaped beach.

Ulua beach mentioned in the precious beach is a little north of Wailea Beach. I did spend lots of time there. I think it's the nicest place to snokrel along the Wailea coast. The water was reasonably calm and I saw some great sea life along the northern side of the cove.

There are definitely nicer beaches in Maui, but these ones on located near nice resorts which of course is a plus.
I also stayed farther north up in the Napili and Kapalua Bay area. I found both of these beaches to be far superior to the ones in Wailea. the water was alot calmer, clearer and prettier, and the sea life was more prolific.
