BBQ Restaurants eastern NC

We are visiting my parents in New Bern, North Carolina, for Thanksgiving. We will be there for 10 days and since I am a real BBQ junkie, want to sample some BBQ there.

Does anyone know of any good/great BBQ joints in/around New Bern or in that area? Naturally, would be willing to drive 60 miles or so for great BBQ.

Kind of a long drive - about 60 miles to Goldsboro, NC is Wilbur's. IMO some of THE BEST NC BBQ to be found.

There's Wilburs in Goldsboro (right on 70) and King's in Kinston (once again, right on 70) and B's in Greenville (on B's bbq road), and other one I'm forgetting right now.

Try a google search for Mike Garner (it might be Gardner) and barbecue. He's with the NC PBS station and does restaurant reviews. Also had a book on bbq. One note: he hasn't met a meal he didn't like.

Oh, and I think the Charlotte Observer did a story on numerous bbq restaurants in NC and SC. Check their website www.charlotte.com. I think it was a food section story, or a travel section. I'd say it was within the past year or two.

Thanks everyone, I may be able to eat BBQ every day (except Thanksgiving, darn it). The BBQ restaurant suggestions I had got from the KCBS forum were King's in Kinston, Wilbur's in Goldsboro, and Pete Jones Skylight Inn, in Ayden. Since there does seem to be a consensus on King's and Wilbur's, those two are definitely going on my list.

Skylight Inn! That's the one I couldn't remember.

Don't forget Scott's in Goldsboro. Great story about Wilber's and scott's. The former is white owned, the latter black owned. Both date from the 20's and white folk ate at Scott's from the beginning. They are both famous.

Wonderful! Now have 2 in Goldsboro. One more and we will be able to have a bona fide BBQ joint Crawl.

Mike:

New Bern has a real good BBQ joint called Moore’s BBQ. It’s right on US 17 as you are leaving New Bern heading towards Jacksonville.

Happy eating.

Thanks guyinnc,

That gives me 6 on my list. Will look at the resource bbqboy suggested.

Thanks all of you for your help. Am really looking forward to the trip and the eats.
