Bayonne,New w Jersey to Boston
OKAY, Fodorites I need help!!! we are cruising into Bayonne New Jersey and diect air fare to Boston is over $300.00 each.. Now, outside of renting a car and driving home..my brilliant idea was to rent a car or taxi and go to JFK or Laguardia to take a flight home to Boston..Please, please any feedback on this problem.

Perhaps flying out of Newark to Boston is a better option? See the attached for logistics and distances between Bayonne and the various NYC metro area airports. Enjoy your cruise!

Have you considered flying to Manchester, NH?

Round trip fares are currently around $188 from EWR to BOS. You could book a RT and only use one leg.
|
You could also go into the city (NYC) and take a train to Boston. |
JetBlue flies from JFK-BOS for between $105-185 one way, depending on time and day. Can't help on transport from Bayonne to JFK, but I am sure you can either figure it out or ask here - maybe even cruiseline transfer.

If you're up for the ride, why not take the train? You might want to check Amtrak fares from Newark Penn Station to Boston. Worst case, see if the cruise line has a bus option into NY Penn Station.
With the Acela Express, even though the trip is longer than the flight once you start factoring in the waiting time at the airport to clear security, it's not all that different. Especially if your best option is to drive to JFK or LGA. I'd probably check Amtrak before looking at other flight options. |
Renting a car would be the cheapest approach if there are two of you, and probably also the fastest if you consider the time getting to and from the airports and security etc. Also the most flexible schedule of course.

The airlines are cracking down on using one leg of a round trip or conencting flight. If you do not use the first leg, they may cancel the second leg.
|
Who cares if they cancel the second leg you don't plan to use?

Knew you would come through with options..lol J62 seems to have the best option and my good Fodor friend, Gail...came up with a second..It just "frosted" me to know I'd be paying over $300.00 to go from Newark to Boston when our flight to Barcelona via Dublin wouldn't be that much more.. Right now the most sensible plan is to check with the cruise line, Celebrity, and see if they have transfers to othr airports.. BTW ADUCHAMP how would they keep track of me to see that I don't go back to Newark..lol...I like that option too. The hangup is that we will be on a two week trans-atlantic (dool Gail..lol) and a three hour plus drive or train ride is not how I want to get home to our own bed after all this time away.
