Bayfront Hilton/St. Pete?
Can anyone tell me anything about this property? It's at 333 First Street South, St. Pete. I am looking for general info, but would also like to know also whether there are parking options other than their garage @ $8.00/day. Thanks for any help.

Here is their web site, lots of info:
http://www.hilton.com/hotels/SPTSHHF/index.html
It is right downtown & within walking distance to many areas of interest. Parking downtown is a problem. Their's is probably as good as any. Be sure to try a grouper (fish) sandwich while down here. If driving around, try Harvey's 4th Street Grill on 4th Street N at about 31si Avenue - Just about 10 blocks north of Sunken Gardens. Also check out Tampa Bay Online at: http://www.TBO.com/

Thanks. Any info about the quality and comfort of the hotel? I've looked at the usual spots on-line for general hotel info; I'm looking more for specific experiences.

How's the pool and other facilities? Rooms nice? From the photo I saw, it looks like they don't have balconies--can you confirm? Appreciate any further info.

Peg, Are you going to St. Pete on business, and not planning a beach holiday? Just wanted to make sure you realize you aren't at the beach when you're in St. Petersburg--that's St. Pete Beach and a fair distance away.

On the other hand, if you aren't interested in a beach holiday, downtown St. Pete is a nice place to stay, with a fairly quiet downtown on the edge of Tampa Bay. The new Baywalk area is intriguing--some good restaurants and shops, and the Dali Museum is *wonderful*!

The nicest hotel downtown is the Vinoy and in truth I'm not in the least bit familiar with the Hilton. As for parking, there always seems to be plenty downtown, and much of it free, but I'm not sure I'd want to leave my car on the street overnight.

Hi "at sea" -- haven't I seen you at cruisecritic? (I'm baileyboy. The secret is out.)

Yes, I know it is about 11 miles to the beach. Got the room on priceline. Considering we're paying just $22/night + tax, I can't complain; even with $8 parking, it's just over $30/night for a 3*.

The location we got, however unintentional, is okay, as we're going to spend the time just exploring anyway. We haven't been in St. Pete proper before, and what I've heard about this area sounds good; we're looking forward to seeing new things.

Have heard about the Dali museum, and hope to visit it sometime--if not this trip, the next one.

Thanks for the info.

Hi Peg...no, that wasn't me at cruisecritic, sorry! My "WannaBeAtSea" address comes from our favorite sport, sailing.

Glad you are fine not staying right on the beach. Downtown St. Pete is so attractive, with a very pretty waterfront. Your room rate is absolutely incredible......good grief! You won't beat that anywhere and would probably pay close to 10 times that at the Vinoy. Hope the hotel suits your needs, and really, that's all you are looking for. When you are off touring, what more do you need but a decent place to sleep? The Vinoy might be a great spurge, but with the money you've saved on your daily rate, splurge on some great dinners instead.

Please don't miss the Dali...you won't be sorry. Even people who aren't enthusiastic about art, and his brand in particular, are amazed by this tour. (Guided tours are given in small groups, with the paintings interpreted by docents) It's a couple of hours worth of activity and a place we take every one of our visitors, and without fail, they've loved it.

If you are looking for a pretty drive around downtown, find your way out to Snell Isle (immediately north of downtown) to see the pretty waterfront homes--pretty old, many 20's era, homes in that area.

Hope you have a great trip!!
